Missing Cast Controls

Hi All, relatively new to the Pixel 2 XL and coming from many years of using an iPhone (minus a brief trial of the Droid Maxx). I'm not exactly sure when this happened, but it was either when I did a factory wipe, upgraded to 8.1, or some other time....but it was within the last week.

We have 6 Google Home Minis and 2 Chromecasts in our house. Previously when we would cast to one of the minis or chromecasts (either by voice or from the phone) I would get the persistent notifications that allowed me to control the music / video being played. Now, however that has gone away.

I've done some Googling and looked for a solution. The main solution seems to be to go to Settings -> Google -> Google Cast (or Cast Media Controls) and enable the setting. But, here's the thing. I don't have that setting. I have the Google settings, but nothing about Cast.

I've verified that controls are enabled on each of the minis and chromecasts, but I simply cannot get the notification to appear.

I should note that if I go into the Home app it correctly shows what is streaming and I can control from there, but it was much more convenient to control from the lock screen.

Anybody have any ideas? I really don't want to try another factory wipe as the first one was done to try to solve the Play Services battery drain bug, and right now it seems to have done that.

Just to be sure -- this is when you're casting from your phone, and not trying to control it when someone else is casting from their device, right?

It may be worth doing a factory reset on one or both of the Chromecasts, just to see if that triggers something.

Both actually -- casting from phone / my wife or myself initiating a voice request to one of the Home Minis to play music. It used to show on my phone and allow me to play / pause.

I did end up doing a factory rest and restored the last backup and the Cast Media Controls are now there under Settings -> Google. I thought I had it narrowed down to being in the Play Services Beta opt-in because I opted out before the reset, but I just noticed the beta got installed again.

At any rate, the situation is fixed for the moment. Will be interesting to see if the settings disappear again.
