Missing Storage Moto G

Hi I had about 3gb of free space on my phone and I tried downloading an app and then it stopped and said insufficient storage now I only have 500mb. I don't know what's taking up the space and why I've only got this much space when out of 5gb that it started with I've only got 2gb worth of stuff on it

You can try booting into Recovery and wiping the system cache partition, which won't erase any personal data. The steps for the Moto X should work for the G: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/94946/p/30,6720,8696

Welcome to the forums. You go to Settings>Backup and reset. It should be there.
