MMS auto retrieve and notification problems

I have a galaxy s4 on AT&T and use go sms pro for messaging and have always had to press "download" to retrieve my mms, I just recently found that I could check "auto retrieve" in the stock messaging app so I did that and restarted my phone. Still wouldn't auto retrieve in either go sms or the native app. Not only that, but now I'm not receiving notifications for MMS. I still get the MMS and still have to press "download" but I don't receive a notification tone or alert in the notification bar.
