MMS images saving to photo gallery

Hello,

I am curious as to why any images I receive in my text messages are automatically saving to my photo gallery in a folder called "Messages" or "Messenger;" I forgot which one it was. This is definitely not Facebook as I don't use Facebook, it's through the default text messaging app that came with the phone. I don't see any settings to disable this but I wish I knew if there was an option as this is extremely annoying.

Thanks

Not sure where you want to save those images.....?
Mine doesn't auto save, I wonder if it's data saver mode?

What? I don't want them saved at all to my phone. I've never owned a phone that automatically saves images from my text messages to my photo gallery without me saving them myself or enabling some sort of setting.

Don't know about that if it's the Samsung messages. Use textra then you've got the choice of saving....plus heaps of customisation and now that it works perfectly with gear s3 why wouldn't you?

I'll give it a look. But yeah, someone just sent me a picture message and it saved to a folder called "Samsung Messages." It's not in data saver mode either.

I had the same question because it's very annoying when someone sends you a text message and the pictures automatically save to your phone so I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it so I called Samsung and they told me that it's a new feature that updated when the Samsung that their last system update and there is no way to delete it. The rep told me to go on the Samsung form and state that I don't like it and maybe they'll release another update

To my knowledge there is no setting for this is the messages app.
Perhaps you have a separate app doing it, I read about an app called save mms.

There is no setting on my phone that will automatically save an mms(picture) to my phone on my 950U1. Using Samsung Message app.
Do you have a 3rd party message app installed that allows this?
I would have to tap on pic then choose save or download.
Not sure what Samsung rep was talking about, but this is not something that is enabled by default.

I do not believe that the stock app saves the pictures automatically by default. I use Textra and I do have the option to auto save any pictures automatically if I want. Are you using the stock app?

Well, I have to say this is a peculiar occurrence: for some the messaging app saves photos in a particular file, and for others it doesn't save photos. I quite readily consider both possibilities as fact for all concerned. (I haven't received any mms pic so can't attest which way for me)

Why this is so is the interesting question for me ....

@Heavens1... The most recent responses are are to mizzwax who is having an issue with mms pics being saved to phone automatically.
Responders are saying this is not the norm for their phones using default messaging app, hence the question whether a 3rd party app is installed.
In default messaging app you can save mms pics but have to choose the pic and choose to download. (in my experience)

Yes, I'd like to have it confirmed what sms app is being used, but, irrespective, I can understand if there are variations to the oem messaging app for peculiar reasons (note the peculiar is oft the norm :D)

Edit
my samsung messaging app "messages" version is: 4.3.03.2
and
the 'message service' version is: 4.1.02.52

both Textra and stock sms have an option under mms to auto download

The "auto retrieve" in Samsung Messages simply means the mms will download to your message app without having to tap any kind of "download mms" option. If you uncheck auto retrieve, you have to physically tap message for it to download. At least that's how mine works.
It doesn't save to the gallery/phone/photo app automatically.
Second pic shows what happens if you disable auto retrieve.Screenshot_20180119-222912_Messages.jpgView attachment 278045Screenshot_20180119-225149_Gallery.jpg

For the umpteenth time... Sorry for duplicate pics. Always shows up this way in app when I post from my laptop. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, feel free to give me a holler.

I use the stock message app from Samsung and I didn't know that the pictures were being saved until this thread. I opened my Gallery, tapped albums, scrolled down to more and there it was, Samsung Messages. Huh, learn something new every day.

Mizzwax said he called Samsung and they confirmed the feature, so it's the stock app, not any other.
