We've been having this battle for months. Well let me clarify my wife has been having this issue. We both have the Zound but only she has issues. I think it's something she has installed or something she does on the phone that has compromised something. The reason I feel this way is a long story, but she had this same issue when we had the Inc. I thought then it was something she'd done, but had nothing to go on, but when it started happening on the Zound I had all I needed. Two phones, two different phones, only she has this issue, mine works fine and we have the same phone, and what are the odds one person would get two different phones with the same affliction?
But I guess you're looking for help, right? Well on both phones factory resets solved the problem for a short time until she started using or installing whatever. On the Inc it got to the point where it was spotty and worked more often than not, after about the 2nd or 3rd FR. On the Zound if it locks up now she can usually get it to go if she turns WiFi off, and sends the MMS via network, but this doesn't always work. We've also tried other apps. You're using Handcent, an old favorite of mine, and the one she had installed when she had issues on the Inc. Then she went with GoSMS, and for a brief time tried something else. It was awhile ago and briefly and I don't really remember what that was. She's back to GoSMS, actually we both are, but she had the problem on all of them. You could try a new app. For us it usually was a short term fix if it worked at all.
As for resolving your problem, for us there was the fast way and the other way. The fast way is to backup everything (several paid and a few free apps on the market, and unless your rooted your going to loose all your app data anyway, but this will make finding your non-paid apps easier), and doing a FR. Then slowly over a few days or a week begin adding them back until you notice a problem. Then finding alternative app(s) for the last thing or few things installed.
The other way is to depend on your memory, and try to think when your problem started and what you installed then or just before then. Then uninstalling anything you think was added around that time or just before, and see if the issue goes away. Later apps that you really miss can be added back slowly until you notice a change. Hopefully it will manifest right away with the installation.
My advice moving forward is (IMO it's strong advice in general for any droid user);
>Don't download any app that has less then 3.5 stars. There's usually one just like it that has a higher rating if the one you want doesn't.
>Read reviews before you download an app. Not just the good ones, but especially the bad or low star ones. Granted these are usually knuckleheads that didn't read the app description that says the app doesn't work on their device, but sometimes there's important information in those reviews. Like "...this app uses air push ads..."
>Never install an app that has no reviews. Someone has to be first, just not you.
>Don't install 5 apps in a day. If something does give you fits you'll never know what if you install a bunch of stuff all at once.
And this is the one I wish more people would do
>If you have a real problem with an app or it does something it shouldn't (i.e. air push ads, won't let the phone sleep, always trying to contact your friends, etc) post a comment/review on the market. Just uninstalling it only helps you. We're community, we're forum, we are Android.
I know I tend to over explain things sometimes, and there is nothing brief about me, so I apologize for being long winded and occasionally too detailed. As with any of my posts, I hope to help the reader that may not be as savvy as a person who frequents the boards, but comes here for that one problem.
