Mobile Burn: Phone of the Year

Re: Phone of the Year

Have you tried it? I would guess you have not

I've used it.

It's a solid device with a nice display, software and battery but BlackBerry will always be behind on apps which is annoying.

With all these new tech options like wearables (which I own) BlackBerry are behind on that too. Plus I've still got a sour taste from the BB PlayBook lol

Given the options, choosing a blackberry seems like the realm of the masochist unless you just have to have a physical keyboard.

I would say it depends on what your usage is like. If you are some news reporter or are constantly editing lots of text, or depend on super fast and accurate email sync, Yeah I'd say go for the new Blackberry Passport 100 % unequivocally.

If you are rich and want to indulge your finances into a corporation that knowingly kept a CEO who blatantly lied to the public about his health (Standford Commencement 2006) and was allowed millions of dollars in backdated stock options...not to mention was so afraid of death he refused to put power buttons on his products......Then by all means get the iPhone 6+.

LG G3 phone of the year? We have phones like the Nexus 6 and the Droid Turbo to compare it to. I have used the LG g3 as my daily driver since August. The only reason I have one is because of a last ditch alternate upgrade with Verizon. I'd have the Droid turbo right now if it had root. My plans were to sell it and pay full retail for the turbo in October.

BUT! Lg sends out free spare battery and charger. Brownie points from me for sure. Especially coming from a Droid Maxx. Paired with the awesome black Friday deals we had on the LG G Watches, I miss Motorola active display much less.

The camera is great in low light. Better than any Moto one for sure. The radio handoffs aren't quite as fast as Moto though. Removable battery, expandable storage....

I do think its interesting how their are basically two groups Android and iOS. And now all of the sudden we have all these other sub groups forming in android like Moto VS LG or LG VS Samsung. I just hope android continues to improve. I'm proud to be a part of it.

This is the best thing that could be happening for Android IMO. With four strong competitors (LG, Samsung, HTC and Moto) Android can't help but improve. The competition within the platform will drive it forward and that is a very good thing for all of us. It prevents companies from just resting on their laurels and phoning it in (no pun intended) like when it was just a two horse race in the mobile world between Apple and Samsung. As far as I'm concerned this has been the best year ever to be an Android enthusiast and I wholeheartedly share your desire to see this trend continue.

I totally dig my G3 but it's still a 2 horse race; a website calling the G3 their phone of the year does not change the "volume" of phones being sold by Apple and Samsung.

I never said I was basing my assertion on a single article. I'm basing it on statistics. This years sales numbers show that the other smaller players have eaten away a bit at both of the big boys, which is not surprising given that all have fielded strong contenders this year. That and the market's lukewarm reception to Samsung's flagship offering last spring. They're not huge gains yet, but they are gains nonetheless. If the trend continues then I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that in the next 24-36 months it could very well be a dead heat between four or even five manufacturers.

I hear ya, anything "could" happen, never say never..............

Right now the stats bear it out. The fact that LG has climbed from 3.5% to 5% in the worldwide market share in the last 3 years, especially considering how crowded the Android field is, is not insignificant. And that almost 9% Samsung lost year over year has got to be going somewhere, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Moto showing up on the radar this time next year as well.
