Mobile data/T-Mobile issues

So, I purchased my N6 in January. In may I started getting the ! next to my signal bars. I factory reset the phone a few times. The problem persists.

Last week I RMA'd my N6. I've been using my new N6 for two days and the problem remains. New Sim card, another factory reset and the problem remains.

I get this issue in multiple areas within Phoenix. I've called T-Mobile two and a half dozen times, and they keep making excuses. Saying my settings are wrong. I've even been to several T-Mobile stores and had them look at it. All settings are fine.

So tomorrow I go back to T-Mobile for a third Nexus 6. I'm so frustrated with this phone. I've owned many phones in the 10 years I've been with them and have never had this issue until I got the N6. Is anyone else having this issue with thiers?

Oh, and T-Mobile says the Nexus 6 is one of their most reliable phones. That they have NEVER ever heard of this issue.

Sorry for the rant.

I used to get that sometimes with my Nexus 4. Usually turning off and then back on mobile data in settings usually fixed it till the next time.

I haven't had that problem since I quit using that phone, I have a Note 4 now.

I have had this happen on my Vzw Nexus 6 a few times ,most times while on WiFi.
Sometimes it corrrects itself with doing nothing. It had the ! on just for a few seconds
I have toggled WiFi off and back on to correct before too. When it didn't change for a couple minutes
I haven't had to do a factory reset for this issue.
What causes it ? I don't know

Hate to say this, but you are not the only one reporting this issue. It seems fairly random. Read more at the following links. (see the second link for a possible workaround)

No data or voice, shows ! in icon | Nexus 6 | XDA Forums

The exclamation point means that the phone is unable to connect to Google services; usually because you do not have a working data connection. Occasionally because Google services is down or some other related issue. I presume you do not have internet connectivity at all when the exclamation point is there, correct?

So, the most obvious question is, do you have cellular data disabled? Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Data usage -> Cellular data On/Off.

Next question Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Cellular network settings -> Preferred network type. Is it set to LTE? If not, why not?

Its inferiorating that T-Mobile tells me they don't even have ONE complaint, outside of my own, about this issue.

All my settings are correct. I've trouble shooted this issue on both Nexus 6 phones to an extant. I've brought both phones into T-Mobile for them to look at my settings. All correct.

I run into this issue every once on a while, but only at home when I'm just barely out of range from my cheapy router. I think it gets confused on where to get the data. I do a quick airplane mode toggle and all is back to normal. I think this has only happened to me a total of 3 times in the last month. All at home. Strange.

In all fairness, it is very possible that the number of folks experiencing this issue may be minuscule compared to the number of folks who own a N6.
A majority of the folks who experience an issue will complain, but if it works fine, most people aren't going to write "it's working".

So, when a T-Mo rep tells you that they haven't heard of this issue, it may be true. That rep (or even that center) may have never run into anyone with that issue (and no - most of the first level reps aren't going to even bother to check the known issues database)

oh well, it is what it is...

I've been having this issue for a month or so, but it's really gotten bad and frequent the past week or so. Very frustrating for an otherwise great phone. (Nexus 6 stock 5.1.1 on T-Mobile.)

I've considering getting a nexus 6 for tmobile but now this thread concerns me.

My wife has had zero problems with her Nexus 6. She got hers back when they first came out, so it's been a while now. She loves it, her favorite phone ever.

There's some positîve feedback for ya.

Android since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

If a single one-page thread is enough to give you the jitters, you'd better stop reading any threads about any phones past, present or future.

Just saw this thread. Just bought an N6, waiting for it to be delivered. I'm working overseas and they wouldn't ship it to me so my wife had to send it. Anyways, just wanted to chime in that I've seen a similar issue over here with my 2014 Moto X on 5.1.1 with a Roshan sim card installed. It seems sometimes I get the ! after the phone switches from wifi to cell data. I'll also see it in places where I know I get a crappy signal. In my room, for instance, I get a very week signal but when I go back outside the signal improves and the ! goes away. So I will be curious to see if the N6 behaves similarly with the same sim card, and I think it should work better since it has more frequencies available than my Verizon Moto X. I hope this problem doesn't continue because when I get back I'm planning on switching to T-Mobile.
