Sometimes I have a bad WiFi connection so I turn it off to use 4g, 3g, etc. But it seems every time I turn off WiFi my data also turns off. Both of the symbol in the drop down menu are amber, not sure if it is a setting I changed or what, BTW I have a droid maxx.

Welcome to the forums. The Amber color means you aren't connected to Google services. You should still be able to surf the net, just not do anything Google related. Have you tried a reboot to see if that helps?
