Mobile Deposit problem

Automatic photo for depositing a bank check:
When I try to take a picture of the FRONT of a check a message pops up asking me to "hold steady" (which I am) and then finally the phone gives up and I have to take the shot manually.
When I turn the check to the BACK - the auto function works perfectly and takes the picture within 2 seconds.
I tried my previous phone - Note 5 - and the auto feature works perfectly for front and back. So I know it is not the bank app.
Any ideas as to how to correct this?

I have the same exact issue, but it also occurred with my previous phone (a Motorola Droid Turbo 2) a majority of the time as well when taking a pix of the FRONT of the check only.

Mine doesn't work period with PNC bank. It takes the picture automatically but keeps saying to steady the camera but then times out.
