Like many others, I had one of the clips on my charger break and had to find a work around. I tried clamping the band around items to get enough force to make the connection but disliked the force required since I suspected it would be damaging in the long run. For many months my solution has been to use a clamp to apply enough force to make the connection, but also worried about the long term effects of prolonged pressure on the screen when clamping. So I decided to try to get the charger to be usable with the broken clips.

The problem was the design of the charger doesn't supply power to the watch until the watch presses down on the small black button under the contact pins. This is why such a large amount of force is needed. It's great at keeping power off the pins when the charger is in your pocket, but not so great when you want the power on the pins for charging. In my case, I chose to modify the charger so I have constant power on the pins for easier charging. It's a simple and easily undone modification. It just required keeping the button depressed even when the watch was not fully attached. Fortunately the internal switch itself requires very little force to activate so I just wedged a small piece of cotton under the plastic spring arm for the external button. This keeps the button depressed at all times, so the charger is always supplying power to the watch.

I have added the metal band to my watch, so just the weight is enough to make contact with the pins and keep the watch charged. But with the stock band there is not enough weight so a small piece of lightweight foam is needed to provide slight pressure to make reliable contact. But the force is minimal so I no longer worry about damaging the band. If you need to try to keep using a charger with broken clips, this modification may help you also.
