Mods, is there a way to get either a sticky or maybe even a How-To section for HTC sync. Coming from a blackberry I used the blackberry desktop manager, and I am assuming that HTC sync is comparable. However I've been hearing reports that when people plug in their phone to a computer, it pops open some verizon site or program.

Maybe a how to section for connecting the phone to computer and working the memory card. Many were saying the drives weren't showing up.

Thanks,

Ok, here is my solution to this little problem. Now since I just moved from BB as well this isnt probably the best solution, but it works. When you hook your TB up, on the TB screen you will see a bunch of options click the option for "Disk Drive" then click "Done".

Move over to your computer, go to "Computer" and look for the new drive that has been installed. Mine shows up as "Removable Disk N". Open, Drag and Drop anything. Seems to work for me always. Hope this helped.

hm. Makes me wonder how some of these users even have a problem. This seems like an extremely easy thing to do.

I think he was referring to sync functionality (ie., backing up the device and synchronizing it to the PC, like you can do on a Blackberry via Desktop Manager), not just dropping files on the SD card.

Yes, want to know about backing up the phone. Especially in case one needs to perform a factory reset. I heard the software HTC sync is the program to do this, however I've been reading how some users are unable to get this program to work right (some Verizon program or website pops up). Also, I've read the issue about some plugging in their phone, and their pc doesn't recognize the phone or the sd card (some have mentioned drives not popping up or the wrong drive pops up).

A step by step or how would be nice for these. Now if the sd card is that easy to access as squane123 has mentioned, then I'm sure majority of these users weren't selecting the proper option as squane123 mention above.

I agree. Same thing happened to me and I never did finish the setup I don't think. I would love some step-by-step instructions.

You don't need HTC Sync to do this, and its not what it's for. Your contacts and calendar are backed up via Gmail to Google so those are already taken care of. Paid apps will self-download from the Market if you reset your phone. Other items can be backed up to your SD card by using Astro, a free Market app.

Users have had problems when connecting the TB to a PC, mylself included. You may see the PC wanting to install drivers, but they're not necessary and MS doesn't know where they are anyway. You may see a website popup from Verizon wanting you to install Vcast Manager, again, you don't need it so just say no and close the website. There are instructions in the TB manual on what options you "should" see when you connect to a PC, what they do and when you use each. I would suggest you read those over.

HTC Sync is only useful if you think you need to sync your Gmail contacts and such with Outlook. Don't know if it actually works as I don't need that so haven't installed it.

I used htc sync to move my contacts from bb to tbolt. It was as easy as bb dm. If u used bb dm before u can figure out htc sync. When u plig your phone into the computer, the phone will pop up a window. Select sync.

Here's the deal, if you want to back up contacts, calendar info, email, etc,; your gmail account will do that for you.

Personally, I never USED HTC Sync as it was intended to be used. I only use it for the drivers. You don't need to plug your phone in to your PC to install HTC Sync. Just go to the HTC website and download. If that link isn't working, which I've heard craps out sometimes, try THIS.

As far as using the service, after downloading and installing the drivers, simply plug your phone in and select HTC Sync. This is as far as I can take you because again I've never had to use the service. If you need any further help I can get an adviser to help you or maybe someone a little more familiar can help you. =)

Oh yah after u install it, you plug your phone in. Then open the program. Program will look for your phone. Look for the sync options. Select the program u want to sync with like outlook. Sync.
