Month2Month vs 2yr as Tiered Data Approaches

Hi everyone. I am looking to start service with Verizon and would like to do so before they roll out the tiered data plans - which is supposed to be some time this summer. I am debating whether to go with a 2 year contract or month-to-month service as I have some uncertainty in my future with regard to staying in the US. Ideally, I'd like to go with a month-to-month service and buy my own phone, but I am afraid that upon rolling out tiered data Verizon will instantly apply it to my account since it is a month-to-month and not a contract. On the other hand, would being under a 2 year contract be a good safeguard against tiered data?

I tried calling the customer service line, but the rep denied any knowledge of tiered data and that sort of put an end to the conversation.

What do you guys think?

Verizon is pretty good about honoring plans you have existing as long as you stay with compatible devices. For example, they let us keep our old Alltel 900 minute plan but if I use a Verizon phone I have to use Verizon features, which means I can't use for example the unlimited texting feature from Alltel where it had unlimited data built in on non smartphones from Verizon. But they let us keep the Alltel plan as it's about $10 cheaper a month than the comparable Verizon plan and gives you 200 more minutes. So I say if you can go month-to-month go to it.

They won't disclose information about the plans until its released. But you will stay on whatever plan you have either on or off a contract, unless you switch plans or devices. month to month would be better if you're not sure you are staying in the US.

No that isn't true. There is no way that we would jsut "wake up" one day and have a tiered structure in place. I would bet that they give us at least a month from announcement of tiers to implementation of them
