Low light performance is pretty bad on this phone with autofocus compared to the pixel and s7. It works a lot better when the shutter speed is increased in manual settings to 1/30 as opposed to the slower default 1/10.

Has anyone found a different workaround for taking low light pics? Not talking about really dark settings either, just seems like this camera gets very finicky when the sun begins to set.

And just gotta throw it out there- anyone have a clue why Moto hasn't updated the Moto Camera app since August 2016? Seems crazy to me.

I've been pretty impressed. If there is movement it won't be good but for stills it's nice.

Haven't really tried it in that situation yet...
I'll know more in a day or so... Taking the phone to the Winter Nationals tractor pull tomorrow night and plan to take a lot of pics with it, with and without the camera mod connected. Will be trying both pics in the pits and action pics on the track.
Will let you know how they come out.

Nice, ya, post a few pics if you can.

I used the S7 and Pixel cameras in low light and the autofocus is incredibly better then the Moto z force. I'd say the Moto z force is better than both in well lit conditions though. Just frustrating because I know it's not hardware related, due to manually fixing it in settings, just wish Moto/Lenovo would send a software update for the camera app.

I'm glad I saw this post because this app seems to crash a lot for me on the Moto Z Force. I was wondering the same thing...why no updates since September 6, 2016?

And the Moto Z Force Droid camera is no slouch either...rated just under the Pixel on quality...would be nice to see improvements in the stock app for sure.

Ya I'm aware of the camera reviews. My only gripe is the poor autofocus in moderate to low light when compared to the pixel or s7, especially when a software update could remedy it.

Agreed...I've been on the edge to go back to a Pixel (or gasp, iPhone 7+) for the camera alone but I love my Moto Mods. Let's flood the support email for the Play Store apps for suggestions to update the app.

That would not require a software update to the camera app itself, which is just a front end to the camera APIs and hardware. Those have probably been updated with each of the OTA updates (especially the Nougat update.)

Then the Nougat updates made the camera worse from when I had this phone on MM. Maybe the next round of OS updates will fix it.
