moto transfer error.png

Since the Marshmallow update (which went smoothly), when I connect it via USB, the Moto E drive shows up blank on the laptop. No file structure as used to show before the update.
After the update, the device detected a “new” SD card and offered an option to use as internal storage or for transferring files. I opted for the transfer option.
In Settings / Storage & USB it detects portable storage SanDisc and the size correctly. When I open it, I see 3 folders; Android_secure, Android (with 2 sub folders Data and Media) & LOST.DIR. Menu gives me 3 options, Eject, format & format as internal. I used the format command which took me to format as portable storage, erase & format successfully executed. When connected to my laptop and the “blank” Moto E drive shows, I attempt to copy an audio file from the laptop I get “analysing file” indefinitely on the laptop. Also, every time I power down /up I get the SD Card detected notification and repeat the format cycle.
I hope you can follow this as I attempt to say what shows and the steps I'v taken ! Help !

Solved:
It's a feature, not a bug, in Marshmallow.

When connected, pull down SD icon in notification bar. There should be 3 options.

Default is 'USB charging'. Pick 2nd option - 'MTP' and you should be able to transfer files.

You'll have to do this every time you connect phone to computer.

I have the same problem. But how do I pull down the SD icon - can't see that. When I pull down from the notification bar, it just says No Notifications. Where is the SD icon and what does it look like?

I have tried to delete mp3 from device but says can't delete some documents? Will not delete folders or individual files when connected to laptop cannot see mp3 to delete them need space on device is their a way to delete these files please help

I'm in the same position - before I upgraded to marshmallow I could see both the SD card and the internal memory when I connected via USB to W10. Now I only see the SD card. Rocket player no longer finds any music files and I'm unable to access mp3s on the SD card for alerts in things like FB messenger. Google Play is able to access the music files.

When I try to copy from the SD card to internal using ASTRO file manager I can see the internal memory, but when I try to save there I get 'Error: could not write to file'

Why do companies make life so difficult for us? Just asking :(

Also having this issue since update. I know there should be a notification but there isn't one.
