I needed a phone quickly and cheap, so I bought a Moto E from Amazon last week. Yesterday the headphone jack stopped working. Instead of exchanging it for another one I'm looking into paying a little more for the Moto G 2nd Gen. Neither Amazon nor Motorola has it in stock and neither has an ETA for it to be back in stock. I find it a little strange that Motoola themselves don't have any idea when it will be back. Are there any rumors of hardware changes in the next run? If not, I'll probably just buy the G2 locally.

1) They don't own the factory it's made in, so they don't control when a shipment is ready.

2) Unlike other companies, they seem to not want to make a promise they have no idea whether thy can keep. I think that's a plus for them, not a minus.

3) Ever consider anything other than Motorola? Not that it's a bad phone - my V551 (over 10 years old) is still my spare phone - but there are other good phones out there.

Thanks Rukbat. I've been using a Galaxy S2 with various custom roms for the last three years, but it's finally died. I thought the G would be a good off contract replacement. There doesn't seem to be anything near as good for the price.

Did I really type Motoola? :p

At the Moto G price point I don't think anything comes close.

If you just want to try an expensive phone to get you through consider the Blu phones on Amazon.

Thanks isdaako. I picked up a Moto G from Best Buy over the weekend. Great phone so far. Love it.

Hard to say. Motorola has it in stock on their site, so maybe retailers will be getting it back soon.
