How can I skip all the intro. Motorola stuff ("junk") and have the home screen open on power up ?

Welcome to the forums. Do you mean the boot animations? Those with 'things' going around the world and the Moto logo? If so, you can't remove them unless you root your phone and ... switch for different animations.

All that junk is the system booting up, just like your PC. It takes some time to power up and load the system, that's just something for you to watch while it does it's thing behind the scene.

Don't turn it off, just put it to sleep...
