Moto G battery saver not working quite as described?

On my Moto G (1st Gen.) I am using lollipop. I recently experimented with the battery saver mode, and it seems to work exactly as explained. Also, when I charge the phone, the battery saver shuts off. And when I turn the phone on again after charging, I can see that the battery saver was automatically turned off during charging. I know this is the way it is designed to work. But today, I noticed that when I charged the phone (with battery saver on), and turned it on again after charging, the battery saver was still on. Anyone else notice this? Anyone know why the sudden difference in bahavior?

Is this the only time it has done it? It could just be a small glitch, or maybe it's something that learns your habits? I don't think it will hurt anything.
