Moto G internal storage SD Card not functioning correctly

I formatted an SD Card in my Moto G as internal storage. It has not shown any error, but it does not function properly. When I try and install apps it says I am out of space. The SD card does not show up when connected to the PC via USB, but the internal storage of 5.5GB reads as full up. There should be 32gb of additional free space from the SD Card. In Settings > Storage I can see the SD Card, and it says it has 32gb free on it. If I eject the SD Card the phone shows a notification saying that internal storage has been removed so some apps may not work correctly. So the phone clearly recognises the SD card is there, but it does not seem to make use of it?

Welcome to Android Central! The SD card could be corrupt, defective, or counterfeit. Install SD Insight to see if the card is genuine or counterfeit. Counterfeit cards are programmed to report more storage than they actually have, and if you try saving more than the card can actually hold, then files can start getting corrupt.

If it's a valid card, then go to Settings>Storage, Unmount the card, remove it, and insert it into your computer. Run chkdsk to look for bad sectors: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html.

Pretty sure it's not the card itself as it works fine as portable storage, this seems to be an issue with Android?

It currently works well as portable storage, or it was working like that before the update? Cards can go bad without warning, so unless you can confirm that it still works well right now as portable storage, it's still worth checking.

Yeh if I reformat as portable storage everything begins to work normally. I had a frustrating issue with a card right before this that wouldn't format as internal storage, which turned out to be a fake card. This seems to be a different issue entirely. I suspected it was related to this issue - http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/134230/sd-card-not-showing-files-when-connected-to-pc - but I have tried clearing the cache, including the system cache partition, and it still doesn't work.

I know this is a pain, but are you able to try yet another card, preferably purchased from a bricks-and-mortar store? It'd be helpful to know if the same thing is happening on more than one card that checks out ok.
