I just bought a g4 plus and don't have the sim card yet. I cannot connect to wifi anywhere and have tried all of the fixes. I am going to use PagePlus and have ordered a sim card. I thought that with the sim card I could update the phone and that might fix the problem. Any suggestions??

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the Moto G (2014) forum (which is for the 2nd gen G) to the G4 Plus forum.

Does the phone's wi-fi toggle switch actually turn on, or does it stay off? If it goes on, do you see a list of available wi-fi networks in the Settings>Wi-fi menu?

Thanks for the move - new to this. The wifi finds available networks and then I log in and it tells me it can't authenticate. Have reset phone, router, etc....I was thinking that once I get my Page Plus sim card I could update the phone. But now a guy in The PPlus forum tells me that I will need a Boost or Sprint card to update the phone - that PPlus won't update. If I get a Boost or Sprint sim card I would imagine that I would have to have the phone activated with one of those companies to do anything......

Are you trying to connect to a wifi signal you don't have the password for? That won't work. It has to be your wifi router, or a public one that doesn't need a password. (And for a lot of those, you have to run the web browser [Chrome will do] and try to connect to some site, any site - then you'll get a page asking you to agree to the conditions for using that connection. Then you have to keep Chrome running - don't close it or clear it out of RAM.)

Oh - PP doesn't update Android versions. If it's a Sprint phone, you need a Sprint account (which means a Sprint card in the phone, so you won't be on PP any more) to get updates. Or you can just stay on the version you're on. Eventually (2 updates of Android version at the most) and the manufacturer will stop issuing them anyway. But that has nothing to do with wifi - my 2012 Sprint phone, which hasn't been on Sprint since late 2013, still connects to wifi just fine.
