Moto g5s plus: What is the circle just to the right of the selfie camera for?

What does the circle do? The one just to the right of the selfie camera on the upper left side of the hardware?

I need to replace my screen (I cracked it) and the replacement that was sent to me is the one for the g5 plus (no s) and it doesn't have a hole there. What will I be missing if I install this replacement screen?
