Moto making Nexus 5

Given that Google finds 5" phones distasteful, it is a safe bet it won't be 5" or bigger.

Seeing that this thread has been revived, I'd still like to know what makes you think this is true. I don't remember any official Google statement saying that they find 5" phones distasteful.

5.2"
I believe the next Nexus will be based on the G2 with a smaller form factor. All this Nexus 4(2013) talk makes me laugh. There's going to be a lot of disappointed people here lol.

I guess you think you work for Google and know the ins and outs. Hell, I wish I could work for Google too.

At this point I would base my speculation on what Google has done in the past with the Nexus devices which is to keep ALL of them at under 5in. Is it possible they could change this? absolutely but no one has any concrete proof of that, and their history doesn't support a move like that.

In my own opinion the phablet is too niche of a product to ever become a Nexus they haven't sold nearly as well as their smaller brothers the S3, S4, and other competitors such as the HTC One, and the iPhone 5, and I pray Google doesn't make the Nexus into one of them (I would feel ridiculous holding one of those behemoths up to my head while walking down the street).

Wait... so you're saying that the N5 won't have a 5" screen because previous Nexi didn't? Well, I guess the GS4 doesn't have a 5" screen, since the GS, GS2, and GS3 didn't.
In fact, if you're using previous phones as evidence to support your phone, the evidence would actually support a 5"+ N5, since each Nexus phone has had an increasingly larger screen.

Because that wouldn't make any sense. Apple has distinct names for its products, while the Nexii all share the Nexus moniker. The ascending numeric designation would not work for the Nexus devices unless they applied it to ALL of them. (And, since the new Nexus 7 retained its moniker for the new generation, we know that wont be happening) As others have said, why would google introduce an ascending moniker to the Nexus 4 when they know it will eventually have to be renamed because it would overlap with the Nexus 7? It's common sense.

At the same time, the nexus 7 is the ONLY product in Google's entire portfolio that follows this model, so you cannot blindly assume that this is going to be the Standard for every other product. Especially seeing that no other nexus phone has followed this model.

I personally give it a 50/50 chance between nexus 4 or nexus 5 with the small hope that it might just be "nexus". But I don't know, and neither do you. So check your absolute tone.

Personally I believe Google is liking 4.7" with on screen buttons, but that's just based on their influence on the Moto X making it similar in screen dimensions to the Nexus 4. They could easily change course.

Except for the last two devices the screen sizes were just about identical, the N4 was slightly wider than the GNEX, so no your argument makes no sense since they seem to have found a bit of consistency in screen sizes in the last couple iterations which really just supports what I have been saying.

When the N4 came out it sported the most recent android OS which was 4.0 so if the N5 comes out sporting KLP android 5 it should be called the N5 for that reason YMMV. Ill be sporting my N4 running KLP..

But it was 4.2.1... The gnex had 4.0 in 2011 and the nexus 7 has 4.1 in 2012.

Nexus. Through spacetime.

I thought the Moto X was the next Google phone....isn't that why Google bought them? One supplier, built in house....

Doesn't have stock Android or the latest version, so it can't be a Nexus.

This looks like at least a 5" phone. Perhaps there will be a Nexus 5 which will be made by LG in the 5.5" range and there will be a Nexus 4 (2013) made by Motorola. It would be consistent with rumors of Motorola and LG making the next Nexus phone. So both rumors are correct.

Mysterious Nexus phone shows up in Google KitKat statue video | Android Central

A lot of blue or turquoise that seems placed on purpose at important places, (in my zero-expertise opinion), which makes me think you might be on to something because the blue color reminds me of the customized bluish color backs of the Moto X, but we also see a bunch of Nexus 4s in the video as well as the mysterious Nexus device clearly looks like LG, so there is references to both. (As you astutely surmised). You got me to thinking about other things too that may have significance. It is also quite possible that I should not have eaten those brownies that my nephew and his friends baked last Saturday night and I'm chasing smoke and mirrors :)

Anyways, the girl looks like she is holding a Nexus 4 in the first few glimpses we get of her and she is not wearing her prescription eye glasses. We also see the Nexus 4 in both portrait and landscape (portrait is held by a different girl in a separate shot). There is also a shot of a pair of white Nexus 4's (I think) side by side being held in portrait and landscape. What I'm getting at here is a kind of symbolic progression: Nexus 4 black portrait and landscape; Nexus 4 white portrait and landscape. We see the girl in the background fastening her sunglasses to her shirt but hard to see her prescription eye glasses. Then we eventually see the girl next to the guy holding the new mysterious Nexus device side by side in landscape and the girl is now wearing prescription glasses. With her wearing her glasses it makes me think of some reference to Google Glasses and her blue shirt makes me think of a reference to a Moto-esque color. The fact that earlier shots of black and white Nexus 4's are portrait and landscape but the Nexus 4 and the new Nexus device are side by side in landscape with the girl wearing eye glasses (when she wasn't before) could be a reference to seamless integration between different android devices as android matures. Maybe KLP is suppose to offer better integration between devices. Isn't it?? Anyway, one thing I would be willing to bet on (again having zero experience in such things) is that the video was highly choreographed and every detail carefully vetted.

Whether it's Nexus 4 or Nexus 5, I hope Moto makes it. Whoever makes it, they've got work to do on the camera. BTW, I have an awesome 2007 Moto Razr2 v9 keypad phone and still use it occasionally.
