Moto Voice vs Google Assistant

Correct me if I'm wrong, and enlighten me as well. I have found that if moto voice is enabled the assistant will not activate my microphone. Thinking about it, if I disable moto voice access for the assistant access, wouldn't I lose everything that's pretty great about the moto devices? Like read aloud texts while driving...

I would look into more of Google Assistant's features. I just read a piece that said that Asst. is now able to read back messages... not just SMS... but Hangouts and Facebook messages as well. I'm in the office at the moment, otherwise I'd test it out myself.

Depends on the feature I suppose. If there is a feature in Moto Voice that is critical to you that GA doesn't have, then there's that.

I have a Moto X Pure and have always used Moto Voice because it lets me do a great deal of things hands-free while I'm driving. I would like to try Google Assistant hands-free but I've yet to find a guide that shows if this is at all possible. I've tried disabling Moto Voice, but when I then activate "OK Google" again, my voice triggers Google Search, not Assistant. The only way to activate Assistant is to long-press the home button, which I don't want to do while I'm driving. Have any Motorola/Lenovo owners found a solution?

I often make use of Moto Voice hands-free from screen off, which GA can't do. So, I keep Moto Voice enabled for those usages (mostly just placing calls), but otherwise invoke Google Assistant via home button long press when I already have phone in hand. Basically makes best use of both features. Ideally, GA would be able to utilize the Moto Voice low power always listening DSP (which I believe is still exclusive to Moto), or perhaps Moto Voice be configurable to invoke Assistant vs Search, but that's apparently not in the plan.

Is there any possibility of getting Motorola to revert to the Moto version that had its own "Wake Up" start and in which OK Google was completely sidelined (like my Droid Turbo Moto version 4.0.35)? The microphone icon still worked normally in Google Search even though OK Google would not activate.
I am finding this hybrid of Moto & OK Google on tbe new Z2 Play is inferior when it comes to true hands free operation. To often, OK Google/GA (Google Assistant) requires using the tapping the screen to complete an action. Tbe earlier version of Moto could resolve conflicts with voice commands vs tapping the screen (example when I ask to call a store with more than one number, Moto would tell me to say "call" after repeating correct option. OK Google shows me the choices and asks me to tap on my voice).
Do you have an inside track on Motorola? I actually wish I could goods this Z2 Play and go back to my Droid Turbo
