Now that its out, anything else you can share with us that hasn't made it to the flood of 'hands on' blog posts?
I've said pretty much everything I know in one place or another on here. I learned a couple things from the hands-on articles I read (didn't know they finally were able to get the custom voice phrase going. I know they've been working on that since well before the original Moto X was released). I didn't see the new active display (with multiple notifications) in any of the hands-on articles yet, but maybe they still aren't ready with that software update yet.

Just funny reading some hands-on commentary of the phone and thinking about how I mentioned that a long time ago. :)

If you want something new, I got hands-on with the leather version last week. Pretty nice- the texture felt like a broken-in baseball glove. Similar color, too (though there will be other colors...I think 2 more). I wouldn't get leather, but it seemed nice. There are plans to offer sports-themed leather-backed (basketball, football) devices.
Horween Leather

Horween Leather Company offers an array of tannages using primarily cowhide and horsehide, and also using smaller quantities of calf and bison hides. Its leather is used in a number of products including sporting goods (footballs, basketballs, and baseball gloves), footwear (casual and dress shoes, golf shoes, work boots, and cowboy boots), bags, wallets, briefcases, belts, clothing (fine leather jackets and coats), and other apparel and accessories.[7] It is known for its production of Shell Cordovan (the Chicago Tribune called it the "Cordovan capital of the world"), professional football leather, and Chromexcel (a type of long-lasting cowhide), among other leathers.[4][8] It is the exclusive supplier of leather for National Football League footballs, and also supplies the leather that is used for National Basketball Association basketballs.

Also, there will be a pretty nice bumper for the new X. Will allow you to show off your custom designs.

I really like the sound of this device, especially having a leather back. But no wireless charging (probably because of the back panels) and I am just not sure. I know it sounds like a small thing, but when you have charge pads everywhere and have been using them for almost 2 years, I just don't know how I would feel about going back and plugging my phone in again.

First world problems I know.
Yeah. I had wireless charging on my Pre, and didn't realize how much I would miss it. I think it's extremely likely my next phone will have Qi charging. My next phone is also going to be smaller than this behemoth. I'm a woman, and I often put my phone in my pocket. This size doesn't work for me.

Oh well, interesting set of new phones, but nothing here for me.

I will most likely end up with the new X as my next phone, but I know I'll miss wireless charging. Oh well, at least I can still use it with my Nexus 7.

Prices start at £419.99 for the 16 GB version. This is on the Clove UK website. Ridiculous.

I thought the price would be around the £350 mark tops, but I'll just think about going with the Z3 Compact as it's the same price.

I like the new phone but think I'm waiting for the Nexus now...

I had high hopes for this, but looks like I'll have to give it a miss. I'm losing my patience with my moto g.

I've been put off the z3 compact now, as I had the z1 compact and they had them scratchy plastic and glass panels with ASF layer on them. What's the point in having scratch proof dragontrail glass and then putting an anti shatter film on which gets scratched very easily.

MOst likely gonna upgrade to this from the OG HTC ONE on Sprint. I miss stock android and while Sense is pretty light, nothing beats stock android with the pull down access to wifi that the HTC one doesn't have (Think Touchwiz having all the options in the pull down menu)

I like the ONE alot but a bigger, stock version of droid seems like a better option.

Will save my upgrade for this.

I think Motorola is not a profitable company and they have to focus on a few phones that will appeal to the largest number of people to try to turn things around.

If you read on the iPhone forums they are doing cartwheels over the fact that Apple is finally releasing a larger phone. So, many of the same people who used to defend Apple's refusal to make larger phones are now very happy about it. Many of them are literally peeing their pants at the idea of a 5.5" iPhone option.

Those of you who want smaller phones are in the minority and until there are more of you, the manufacturers are going to make larger phones. If there is a demand for smaller phones, they will make them. So if all of these larger phones don't sell well, the manufacturers will scale them back in size or they will release multiple sizes.

From what I've seen, I disagree with this. The problem is, if you want a top of the line phone you've been forced to either buy an iPhone, which is too small, or something over 5" -- there has been no phone with great specs between 4.5 - 4.8" for the last year or more. Notice I said "great specs" since that was always the "flaw" with the original Moto X. There are several polls that say users actually prefer the 4.5" (or slightly larger) phones. Even if you are right, and most prefer the 5"+ phones, it still wouldn't have hurt Motorola to keep the new Moto X smaller as it would be the only high end phone (other than the new iPhone) in that size range.

I'm going to be very curious about how the iPhone 6 does. I question if it won't grab some current Android users, that "minority" you talk about, simply because it will be the only flagship in that size range. It will be also interesting, based on your comments about how you believe people want larger phones, to see how the "smaller" iPhone 6 sales compared to the iPhone 6 phablet.

Is it realistic to compare phones based on screen size? Seems like bezel design can make a huge difference, where one phone could be .3-.5" larger, yet overally physically the same size due to slim bezel design. Granted, we've seen side-by-side photos of the 1st & 2nd gen Moto X, and they didn't pull off that type of miracle there, but it just seems like screen size could be deceiving as a generalization of phone size.

Anyone who cares more about specs than performance shouldn't be looking at the Moto X. Moto X owners don't find the performance of the Moto X flawed, with the notable exception of the camera.

Unfortunately, John or Jane Doe, just off the street, never gave the Moto X a shot because it had weak specs. I agree, there are many of us that know and love the Moto X but, overall, but sales were a disappointment because the "average user" mostly looks at specs when comparing phones.
Well I certainly don't know any of those people IRL and there appear not to be many of them here either. Anyhow, Motorola's, Apple's, Samsung's, LG's and HTC's market research clearly indicates that they should make larger phones. I really doubt they are all wrong.

Perhaps you could point me to their research? I can show you multiple polls -- granted they are online polls on forums like this -- that claim 4.5 to 5" is the preferred size. It is really funny how you include Apple, whose research apparently shows that people want a 4.5 - 5" phone, with the option of a phablet. In the mean time, what I see is a bunch of companies all feeling like they have to copy Samsung's specs to compete (including screen size).

It would have hurt them in that those of us who want bigger screens would have looked elsewhere. And the bottom line is there are more of us than there are of you.

So you claim.

Phablets are a niche market. It won't be any different with an iPhone than it is with Samsung's phone/phablet combo - the phones will sell more than the phablets. Most people want a phone not a phablet.

You do realize the orignal phablet (Note) was pretty much the same size screen as the current Moto X. Apple's new "phablet" is going to be the same size as "mainstream" phones, like the Oneplus One, the G3, etc. We are to a point that all the flagship phones are what were originally phablets. So, if you are right, everyone does want a phablet, though maybe just not a huge one.
