I would like to hear from those who have owned their Moto X for more than two years if satisfied and have not had reliability issues. MOTO X 2013 only

Re: Long term reliability

I am coming up on 2 years. Solid use after 1, and unusable after I shifted to AT&T from Sprint. It still works. Solid device if that is what you are looking for.

Re: Long term reliability

I believe the OG Moto X was first released in August of 2013, so don't think anyone would have a 2 year old one. I picked mine up in November 2013 and it still looks great (usually use an Incipio DualPro case). Everything still works perfectly. Mine is still on KitKat 4.4.4 and I'm fine with that as it runs without any hiccups or lag. Supposedly Moto is having issues updating it to Lollipop 5.0 because of Motorola X8 mobile computing system and Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset. I still favor the smaller form factor over the newer and bigger smartphones.

Re: Long term reliability

I have posted on this forum before about how I use my moto X. You can do a quick search of my posts and see the details. In short, I am a landscaper that works with hardscapes and I work outside. I use my phone a lot during the day in very harsh environments. It gets dirty, dusty, wet and bounces around in my pockets throughout the day. I consider myself a hard use case for this phone. I use a Supcase and screen protector. When I take my case off my phone still looks brand new. I've had my phone for just over a year now. I am extremely satisfied with the build quality and durability of this phone.

Re: Long term reliability

I've had this phone since Dec 2013. Everything is still running very well. Rarely ever gets laggy unless its been weeks since a reboot. Battery life has not had a noticeable drop in performance. My previous HTCs I'd be on my third replaceble battery by now.

I only have two real issues. The proximity sensor doesn't seem as reliable as it used to be. Phone to face is OK, but it doesn't always stay off in my pocket (2 or 3 lifetime pocket dials, a few times some app got opened, and once in awhile it took pocket pictures.)

Second, I do have noticeable screen burn-in from the status bar and nav bar. Its noticeable on the white start-up screen and light backgrounds when viewing full-screen pics and videos.

Re: Long term reliability

I've also had the phone since November. The battery was never terrific, and now it drains annoyingly fast if I use the phone. I need to charge it every afternoon unless I am in Wi-Fi all day. No other problems. I use it naked except for a film screen cover. There might be some tiny dings on the bottom edge. (I have the black woven back.)

Re: Long term reliability

I bought mine in December 2013. Just started noticing that some gaming apps that used to run well are starting to auto close on their own. I rarely add new apps as I have the phone exactly as I want it. Not sure if this because of an random app update that's not playing nicely or just age.

I also bought mine in Dec 2013. I don't really have any issues except the WiFi doesn't want to stay connected sometimes. But for the most part it runs like new. Looks like new too. Without a case even. Truly this has been the best most reliable phone I've ever owned. Still love it!

Re: Long term reliability

I've had my Moto X since December 2013, and I'm still very happy with the phone. I keep it in a case when I'm out and about, and take the case off at home/work. I have the white front with white back (from Moto Maker). The phone is still in fantastic condition, very solid built quality, and it's still quick and largely lag free. I don't do any gaming on my phone, so I don't have any experience with really processor intensive apps, but for calls/texts/email/social media the phone is still great. All the hardware works as it should, I'm on Verizon and battery life is still OK. Not great, but it gets me through a whole day easily.

The only problem, as some have mentioned, is the screen. The color accuracy is way, way off, which is a bummer, but really only a problem when using the camera or editing photos/posting to social media. It still looks pretty good but there are also noticeable artifacts on the top and bottom, where you can tell the navigation buttons and status bar have burned in the screen a bit. It's not really noticable except occasionally when viewing photos or videos, or during the boot screen. It doesn't really affect usability, but it has given me reason to pause before buying another phone with an AMOLED screen, although I'm sure they've improved since 2013. The 720p resolution is plenty for a phone this size. I briefly used an HTC One M7, which has (still, by todays standards), a fantastic LCD 1080p screen, and while it was definitely better, I don't feel like I'm missing out with the Moto X's lower res screen.

My favorite thing about this phone, and really the #1 reason I have not upgraded, is the size. 2nd favorite thing is the software, basically stock Android with all the right, subtle improvements.

I don't have the OG X anymore but my wife still had gets which she got shortly after launch in August 2013. Still great for her and no problems.

this.

I'm surprised you see screen burn-in. I don't see that.

Re: Long term reliability

Got my 2013 X in December 2013. Still running great and smoothly on KitKat 4.4.4. I'm not much of a phone gamer. I reboot the phone like every other week. If I install any app updates that make things buggy, I clear the cache via recovery. I've dropped the phone a few times, with a TPU case, and no cracks. My screen has burn in at the status and nav bar, which I only notice if I'm watching videos and Netflix full screen. No big deal. Size, stock Android with a few useful software additions = a keeper. I really don't have any need to get another phone until this X dies/breaks, or important apps no longer support KK.

I'm in love with my 13 x. I won't upgrade until this thing stops working or maybe when the 3rd gen x comes out. It's the best phone I've had in years.

Re: Long term reliability

Mine turns 1 years old this month.
Cons: No default easy flashlight toggle. I had a wacky moment in which wifi would keep the phone awake. I would turn off wifi but for some odd reason it would turn itself on, never even connecting to a network. I would do it via the power widget. Got rid of the widget. Also went into wifi settings and did not allow it to scan to find location plus turned off battery mode. That has helped and I no longer get wifi battery drain.

Pros: I have been much accustomed to Active/Moto display. I would want that for my next phone. Twist to launch camera has also been super convenient. Love the Moto assist to silent phone at night and during meetings. Love that my phone is unlocked and not weighed down by skinning and bloatware. The phone size is awesome and the subtle dimple helps me figure out the orientation of the phone.

Indifferent: I use touchless controls a lot less, but still an awesome feature. Spotlight was cool the first time...I can do away without it. They should remove AOSP calendar and use google calendar. Camera isn't the best

I have used my phone without a case for a year (dropped once with scuff on corner). I have had strong reliable 4gLTE signal throughout the year (AT&T bay area XT1053). Few reboots, maybe 2-3 times max in one year. Hangouts is one of the few apps that I get random force close, chrome a couple times. I think the chrome freeze ups were my fault with too many tabs. Phone charges relatively fast, SOT about ~3 hrs (~30% left when I charge), apps run smooth, dust in my earpiece and mic but call quality still good (maybe I should clean it lol), loud rear speaker, power button and volume buttons press the same (no sticking or lag).

I imagine having this phone another year and half...possibly 2

Re: Long term reliability

Still the best Android phone I've ever used.

Plus in a size that is pretty rare.

Re: Long term reliability

I just bought a Moto Maxx, the unlocked, international gsm version of the droid turbo. I haven't decided yet which I will keep. This one still feels nicer in the hand. My only task complaint is that the battery doesn't last long enough.

The turbo feels like a larger version of this phone, with the same active notifications and twist to launch camera. Also, a similarly mediocre camera (but something I use much).

It may be a hard decision.

After you've had time with the Maxx, it would be cool if you created a new post detailing your experiences. The Droid Turbo is the phone I'm most interested in (well, the Xperia Z3C is the one I'd really like but it's unavailable on Verizon). I just can't get rid of my X '13 and it's awesome form factor.

Re: Long term reliability

You and I have a lot in common. I bought a Sony Xperia z3c, too, and recently re-sold it. I talked about why I didn't love it in that forum, or maybe the Moto X forum. If you are curious, you can probably search for my posts, or pm me and I can tell you in more detail.
