So, after having my new Moto X for a week now, I still REALLY love the phone. It's just so fast. I was really excited about the Moto Actions/Assist features and the first day or two, they worked flawlessly but now, it seems spotty. Anyone else having problems?

Moto Assist Home - First two days worked great. Recognized as soon as I was home and read out all texts and calls. Now it may come on for a few minutes. It may read a text but the majority of the time it doesn't recognize home. I checked that all location services are on and that the app shows the correct place for home. I have reset the app as well. Nothing doing.

Moto Assist Driving - First couple of days, same thing. Seemed to kick in as soon as I hit about 15mph. (Wasn't checking closely) Now, just like "home" it may or may not recognize that I'm driving.

Seems like it may be a software issue as I've checked the GPS and maps and everything else works perfectly. The GPS is more accurate than it ever was on my S4. (Not that the S4 was bad or off but the X seems to have a better accuracy for whatever reason)

Just wondering if anyone else has seen an issue like this. I'm pondering resetting the phone especially since it's new and I don't have a lot saved to it and with Google, it would all come right back anyway.

CHEERS!

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

No issues with mine so far. I'm guessing you have tried a restart of the the phone just to see if it is a software hiccup causing the issue. Have you installed or uninstalled many apps just before the issue began? And lastly, you could clear the cache partition. This will clean out temp files that sometimes cause buggy behavior over time. It will not delete any of your apps or stored data.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

Yup. Restarted phone. Cleared caches. Really not installed many apps other than Facebook, tiny flashlight, and a few others. It's very odd. Hoem will show up and then 20 minutes later, disappear while the phone is in the same spot.

I'll continue poking around. Thanks for trying. Was just wondering if anyone else had come across this.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

Have an update.

So I noticed that the "drive" function wasn't working all the time either. PERFECT! I called AT&T and was escalated all the way to Motorola and their top tier support. The phone was remotely looked into and everyone verified all the settings were correct. I had tried factory reset 3 times to no avail.

Apparently, I'm the first to report this issue so they are having a conference about it and I should receive a call in 24-48 hours. (BOO)

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

Good luck- I know that it wasn't recognizing when I was in the car the first couple of times, until it "learned" what sounds, speeds (and maybe the connection to my car's bluetooth?) to identify. It seems to be working fine now. I'm not sure how long you've had yours, but it sounds like you've had it longer than me, so I hope this clears up soon.

I, myself, can't seem to get the "shake the phone to get the camera to open up" action to work. I have work email on my phone which forces a PIN security setting on me, and I wonder if that's part of it, but I tend to think that I might just not know how to shake the phone right. It's not a big deal, but someday, it might be cool if I need a quick picture. Is anyone else having problems with the camera launch gesture?

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

My camera launch gesture works fine. I tested it with pin lock and pattern lock and it launched each time. (Quite rapidly too I must say)

P.S. Make sure you are "twisting" it and not "shaking" it. I did try shaking it and it didn't work but rotating my wrist, even a little, and it works fine. Maybe it's the motion.

I've had the phone a week. It recognized drive fine but now doesn't. It recognizes home when it feels like it. Even if I go in the app, delete the address and let it find me, it still won't work. I've deleted the cache and factory reset the phone. Something is amiss for certain.

It's less of a shake and more like a twist of the wrist twice.
With the phone in your hand, pretend you have a watch on your wrist, and so to see the time you'd twist wrist to see clock (except you need to do that twice no pause between the two times)

Works everytime I used my dad's 2013 x.

Another way to look at it...
Hold phone as you would on its sides. Have the screen face the floor. Then you are going to rotate the phone only with your wrist as if you want to peek at the screen. The screen which was facing the floor is now viewable and is perpendicular to the floor, but then you have it face floor again, and then twist wrist again.. This doesn't have to be done super fast

Hope that helps

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

That did the trick- thanks guys. If you were to stick a pencil through the screen of your phone- perpendicularly right through the screen- and then used it as an axis/axle to rotate the phone, that's what I was doing (partially because it's a much more natural gesture than the correct one). The axis of rotation goes around an axis/axle created if you drove the pencil through the top of the screen vertically. (This is the way my mind works)

I think I've got it now, thanks everyone!

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

Glad you got it sorted out boss! Happy to help!

Update to my issue - AT&T wound up jerking me around a fair bit. I was treated EXTREMELY poorly in a store that I guarantee you that I or any of my co-workers will NEVER set foot in again. I finally got some GOOD people on the phone. (Thanks Chris M. and the supervisor) They are sending me a new Moto X and told me to keep my old phone. (I was more than happy to return it but they told me no)

Tomorrow I'll get a new new Moto X and hope it works ok from the get go. *crosses fingers*

Glad you finally got some help. I've had AT&T since they took over Cingular, and it always seems to be hit and miss with their stores. I've had better luck with their online chat, and I have bought a lot of my phones online (including both Xs) and avoided the stores altogether.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

I'm having issues with Assist launching the wrong app in Drive mode. It has learned to immediately trigger the mode once connecting to my daily driver's headunit, so no problem there, but I have it set to launch Spotify and about 80% of the time it launches Apollo instead (or Play Music when I was using that).

Anyone else have this happening?

Wow they let you keep your old phone. Never heard of AT&T doing that before. Did they give you any idea of what's wrong with the original phone!

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

This is probably a stupid question, but how do I get Moto Assist to create and *send* a text message? Not have them read to me.

When I setup Moto, one of the suggested phrases indicates I should be able to do this, but when I use that command, "Send text to ...", it tells me I need to install the app.

My apologies if I've hijacked this thread, but figured it seemed an appropriate place as a new Moto X user.

TIA for any help.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

What messenger app are you using? It works fine for me using AT&T Messages and with the stock Message app that came on the phone.

I say my "phrase" > then I say "Send text message to" > and then it sends. Seems like you are doing it right. Make sure your contacts/people and app are set up correctly.

Also, to what is wrong, still not sure. Motorola seems to think that there was an update and the OTA was missing a "framework" file. This may be affecting all the Moto X 2nd gen. Seems to be that the Assist/Actions is not working 100% for many people.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

I am having trouble in getting the meeting mode to kick in. I have my personal gmail account as well as my official account set up. In the assist settings, I can see both my calendars listed and checked. However, even if i get a meeting invite on my official calendar, which I have accepted, the meeting mode does not kick in.

Everything works perfectly when using the gmail account, its the exchange official account that seems to not trigger the meeting mode.
All syncs have been enabled.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

Re Home mode, have you checked the map under 'where do you live?' to see if the location actually matches your house? After I had entered my real address, the map was a little bit out so I manually dragged it to where my house actually is (even though now it shows the wrong address) and now the Home icon appears in the notification bar.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

The only problem I'm having is with keeping the screen on. IIRC, Moto Assist also is supposed to keep the screen on when you're looking at it, but no matter how I hold it or how far away, it doesn't seem to recognize and the screen shuts off.

Mine seems to be having problems with this too.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

Mine will shut down in the middle of an assist function. Meaning I'll listen to a text while driving. It'll ask me if I want to respond. I say yes. It beeps and then halfway through my response, the phone re-locks itself and stops listening. Very annoying.

Truthfully, my Moto experience has been pretty buggy so far. My wife tried to match my actions via voice with Siri last night on an iPhone 5 and got pretty darn close. I'm still chewing on whether this phone was really worth it.

Re: Anyone having Moto Assist/Actions issues?

Yes, it appears to be "buggy" and I'm hoping there will be an update. I've fiddled with mine and it just does it when it wants to. Drive mode works about 80% of the time and "Home" mode works about 50%. I've checked the locations with the map and the app, reset it, etc. I don't believe it's hardware but a firmware bug.

Mine has done the "I'm done listening to you" in the middle of talking to it as well. It's almost as if it goes into a buffer overrun. It starts off fine but as it keeps going, it starts to "fill up" for lack of a better term. Case in point, last night, while the home feature was actually working, I was having a text conversation with a friend while updating some spreadsheets and watching TV. (All hands free which is why I want to use it.) It started off fine but after about the 20th text, the app started having problems and ceased to hear me anymore even though nothing had changed. I even muted the TV to make sure there was no ambient noise problems.

The phone is still brilliant and I love it. As with most new things, problems will arise and hopefully there will be updates to fix these problems.

Hang in there guys/gals but keep reporting these so that Motorola will address them.
