Moto X 2014 Black Friday

Re: Black Friday

WSJ:

Moto X (Regularly $499 unlocked, $100 with two-year contract)

On Cyber Monday, Motorola will offer $140 off an unlocked version of the Moto X on Motorola.com. That would make the 16GB version of the phone $360. Now that’s a deal!

It will also offer the Verizon model, which will be getting the Android 5.0 update this week, for $0.01 when you sign up for a two year contract. The deal is only available at Motorola.com.

On Friday, the Droid Turbo, which has a better camera and bigger battery yet much thicker body, will be $99 with a contract at Verizon.

Re: Black Friday

but my order just arrived! Goddamn!! Is there anyway to have the discount applied? Anyway without having to send back the phone? It's such hassle, waiting another 1-2 weeks. :/

Mine JUST shipped. But I agree, definitely not worth the hassle of waiting another two weeks. And with this promotion, you can bet that there will be an even bigger delay in shipping.

They will try to tell you the only way to get a discount is to reorder and return your current one. I'd you're persistent enough you can get a coupon code valid on their site, but it's a pain.

Re: Black Friday

I've been waiting for this news, but the time constraints of the offer will prevent me from ordering this go-round. ( working ) Just have to hope for a future deal before some other phone grabs my attention.

Re: Black Friday

Yeah, I just spoke with Moto. My new phone should come on Monday. The representative told me that the only option is to return and purchase another using the code. I have a question, though. She said there was a 14 day return window. Does the 14 days start from the day the phone is shipped to you? If so, I could use the phone and order another, and simply return the first one when the discounted one arrives.

And another thing. Do you think it will be easy to get the promotional code, or will it be limited quantity like those HTC Hot Deals. There isn't much sense trying if everything sells out in like the first minute or the promotional site crashes.

What did you say to them? They're pretty stubborn about it :/ And I really want this $140 discount ._. dammn motorola!

I think it would be wise to stick with the phone. That's what I decided on. If I want the BF ad deal then I would have to send the phone back and then wait a week+ for it to arrive there and then a couple of days for the refund to process and then the limited stock will probably be sold out already :/ Best bet is to do what Clocks suggests..

I think you're right. Worst thing would be waiting a few weeks because the phones are backordered. I've already been waiting over a week for the one I already ordered, and that's under normal demand.

The only thing I'm worrying about right now about my Moto X is if the back bamboo might peel or lifts. Read so many topics about it lately :/

Well the promo site says there's a six hour window so it would be kind of ridiculous if the promo supply only lasts only minutes. Of course, it's Motorola so I'll be online right at 11 CST just in case.

It also says limited quantity. Somehow I think that six hour timeframe will outlive the quantity.

Re: Black Friday

FYI Motorola has posted an FAQ on this offer. It includes this:

I purchased a Moto X alone, or with some accessories in the past two weeks at full price (or within 30 days in California). If I get a code, will you refund the difference in price that I paid?

Yes. If your non-discounted or promotional purchase was delivered on November 17 or later (November 1 in California), we have two options available:

1) If you register for a code and get one, give us a call. We’ll refund the $140 sale amount for an off-contract Moto X. For a Verizon phone purchased on contract, we’ll refund $99.98.
2) If you register for a code and get one, give us a call. We’ll refund 30% of the cost of accessories purchased at full price with the Moto X. No discount is available for accessories that were already on sale, discounted, purchased on special or using a promotional code.

Well for me it was only a $50 discount. It took an hour on the phone and 3 weeks to get the code (which came as 2 $25 codes which stacked).

Honestly I would just return it and buy a new one. Since the $140 is limited you might not even get one. They aren't going to give the discount ahead of time for sure. *** /edit just saw the post before mine. Thats good news.

The return policy starts from the day of delivery.

Re: Black Friday

That's great news! Now, the only problem is that I already applied a student discount to my order. So hopefully I can get them to refund the remaining $90 to make the discount an even $140.

Re: Black Friday

You guys really gotta read the FAQ on Motorola's website... It states that if you manage to get a promo code AND you are within your return window you can call them and get your refund. Seems perfectly fair to me...

I would trust the longevity of support from Motorola to be better than that of Oneplus. Both are great options. And the $140 deal for Motorola on Monday isn't a certainty. You'll likely need a fair bit of luck to acquire the promo code, if last year is any indication. You just have to weigh the options.

Re: Black Friday

Wonder if the site will crash when it opened. Many of the days like this for the OnePlus One offers; the site crash! This will be interesting to see what happens. I going to try it on Monday and see if I can get a promo code before it crashes or shuts down. I predict it will close within 2 minutes time of the opening! or 11.02!
