Moto X 2014 buying, waiting for fire sale?, or wait for next-gen?

Re: buying, waiting 4 fire sale?, or wait 4 nex-gen?

Battery life is a huge deal for me...been nursing my Droid Razr Maxx along all this time...as slow as it is, and as 'small' a screen (50+ y/o eyes), I'm actually hoping they come out with a next gen Droid Maxx or similar...so, I'm in the wait phase. Wait for a sale and live with chargers everywhere, or wait to see if they have some other models coming.

I'm probably going to skip this X. My current X does everything i need it to do without any issues. Plus the new size puts me off. That's the reason i got the moto x in the first place. 5+ inch screen doesn't fit so great into my cycling jersey pockets.

Buying and deciding for myself. The 30 day return window should provide enough info about everything else coming out to decide if I need to back peddle.

I love nexus devises and have always wanted one, but if the Nexus if 6", I'm out. Plus i am on verizon which is probably a no go.

Don't they have a 14 day window?

I am not going to buy it. I put some thought into this one, and decided that this new phone doesn't give me much of anything over my OG Moto X that I truly care about. Its basically just a bigger phone, and I didn't want that. As long as the new Moto software makes it over to my phone, as planned, I'll stick with the current Moto X.

Re: buying, waiting 4 fire sale?, or wait 4 nex-gen?

While I like to hate on Apple , I'm not going to make a decision until the iPhone comes out. I use my phone mainly for my construction business and really need a refined straight forward phone without the frills. Love my Moto x but I can't resist getting a new phone once a year. I'm pretty set on the new Moto X with a leather back but it's really between that, the iPhone and the Sony Z3 which still has a skin but minimal compared to the Samsung and LG

Let me preface this by stating, I'm not an Apple-hater. If you work in construction, I'd caution in regard to the new iPhone. The sapphire display is well proven to be highly-resistant to scratches, however, there are strong concerns in the industry that due to it being much more stiff than glass, that impacts and drops could be a real problem for them. Just wanted to share that information with you.

Added a video I originally saw on Arstechnica I think:

The new iPhone doesn't have a sapphire screen. The Apple Watch does. They specifically talked about "glass" when they were talking about the iPhone during their announcement.

Interesting. I didn't watch the announcement, but recalled all the reports that it would use sapphire. I wonder if they abandoned the idea, because of the higher risk of cracking. Thanks.

Re: buying, waiting 4 fire sale?, or wait 4 nex-gen?

All the rumors of the new iPhone using sapphire relied on reports that Apple was busy securing large supplies of it. Everyone just assumed they were going to slap them on the iPhone. Maybe that was the original plan, and Apple decided the tech wasn't quite there for phones. Or, maybe they had the Watch in mind the whole time. Or maybe they're going to go crazy and slap it on the next MacBook Air. :p

Edit: and in regard to this thread so I'm not totally off-topic, waiting for a fire sale will probably be waiting for a while. I don't think Motorola will go quite the same route they did with the original X. Not saying it won't happen, just that when it does there will be other compelling phones out. A discount around late November is probably more likely.

I'm definitely giving the Moto X some serious thought. If in-depth reviews say that it has good battery life and the camera is an improvement, I'll pick it up. Otherwise I may wait to see what the next Nexus or flagship Windows Phone has in store.

The new iPhone didn't get the sapphire display, the watch did. Which makes more sense anyways because you don't wear a case on a watch and it is always exposed.

Yes, YayTech already pointed that out. But thanks anyhow.

Re: buying, waiting 4 fire sale?, or wait 4 nex-gen?

I think I am going to buy it, I have the HTC m7 which is over a year plus old. I have been having an issue with making phone calls where people can't hear me. I like the Speakers on the HTC one but the battery sucks. I will be buying it at full price because I still want to keep my Unlimited data.

I had the Razr maxx a long time ago which was a great phone and the battery lasted forever.

Hey! New business plan: Apple iWatch Watch cases. I'll make a mint!

There were also experts that suspected that Apple didn't have the sapphire production capacity to cover the iPhone 6 and a watch, so they may have chosen not to put it on the iPhone 6 simply because they would have hampered production rates. It's all speculation, only certain folks at Apple know for sure.

Just as what the topic suggests, will you be buying, wait for a fire sale, wait for user reviews, or wait for next-gen? I'm quite curious to see what it takes to pull that trigger.

Pretty sure I'm in. Early reviews good, compromises minor based on my own needs, and most good stuff about the original still there. I may need to hold it in hand to see if the larger size feels right, but I think it will. Ebony/black/black for me.

This will probably be the phone I end up with. Not sure if I should get it right away, or wait for a sale. I have VZW, and want to keep my UDP, so that's something else to consider.

Isn't it supposed to be more resistant?

Personally waiting for a sale. The other one went down in price pretty quickly, and while I'd gladly pay $500 for the new Moto X, I would rather wait (my phone isn't bad. I can stick with it a bit longer) than beat myself up because Moto dropped the price $100 two weeks later.
