Moto X 2014 buying, waiting for fire sale?, or wait for next-gen?

I bought my 2013 Moto X during the Cyber Monday sale last year. If they do the same thing this year then I'll get the new one and sell my current one on Swappa.

Re: buying, waiting 4 fire sale?, or wait 4 nex-gen?

Isn't it supposed to be more resistant?

To scratches, yes. Cracking, no. Even though the phone won't have a sapphire display, check out the video I posted.

Another marketing falsification. Sapphire is harder and has potentially higher tension and compression strength. But it also is much more brittle(impact force) and has terrible shear strength(bending). Hardness is a different metric than strength fyi.

In other words, sapphire would be much more resistant to scratches, but also much easier to crack/shatter when dropped or bent. Other industries get away with using sapphire in products such as watches because they can make the crystal much thicker than you can in cell phones. Very generally speaking, the harder the material, the more brittle the material. This is why the strongest and hardest types of steel are only used for specific applications such as cutting tools, ect. and not usually found in structural features.

If you are on Verizon, you may want to check out the Droid Maxx successor.

Big battery, wireless charging, still can quick charge it.

Thanks, I didn't know it was in the works. I wanted the original x but by the time I was eligible for early upgrade the new one was just around the corner so I waited. I really am not interested in a big phone anymore, but I will hang onto my droid DNA, which is just under two years old and doing fine, until something I really like shows up.

I have heard the first gen X will not be getting software updates, and so is dead. But someone else in this thread says they are coming, and if so that phone is still an option for me. What I really want is an Xperia z3 compact, but the odds of it ever coming to Verizon (or any US carrier for that matter) are slim.

To me the new X is sort of like a more customizable S5 with different gimmicks, a smaller, non-removable battery, and no sd card. If it was just a little bigger than the first gen I could live with it. But I'm insisting on getting a phone that doesn't feel like it's getting bent if I sit down with it in my front jeans pocket.

Wtf?! A more customizable s5?

Motorola has already said that the 2013 X will get Android L and any Moto features the new one has will transfer over as long as the hardware supports it.

I don't think we'll see price drops like the original moto x. The original moto x was pretty overpriced for what it was when it first came out.. screen resolution, processor, camera, etc... It was no where worth the $570ish unlocked price... This year's model is much better, and closer to "flagship" devices, albeit the battery and camera, and this year's is starting at 500, so it's already lower than the original moto x launch price. There probably won't be any change in price until after 6 months at least..

I dont think we'll see huge discounts this year, but I could imagine a $50 off and 50% off accessory deal for black friday or something.

Yeah, turbo charger on black friday wouldn't be bad at all. $20 vs $40 would be perfect.

For no reason at all I grabbed a nexus 5 on swappa. I want to mess with the prepaid carriers in my area before I cancel vzw, and I figure I might as well give them a chance to cut the new x price. I still have my vzw x and note 3 so I'll wait for a bit.

Regardless of the specs, the bom was only a few dollars less than most other flagships. And it outperformed most of them. So I don't see how it's overpriced :p
