Moto X 2014 Only One Home Screen - What Am I Doing Wrong?

Okay I got my new Moto X (2014) today and it's GORGEOUS! I put the sim from my 2013 X into it and all is good, everything migrated, updated, etc., and I was in the process of adding the app icons I like on various screens and I only have one home screen. When I swipe to the right, nothing. When I swipe to the left I got the Google cards thing, which I turned off and now the screen to the left disappears. I'm used to the two screens to the left and two to the right and now I only have one.

Is it some setting somewhere I didn't pay attention to when starting up the phone? Is anyone else having this issue? It really is driving me nuts, since I like a clean home screen with my icons and widgets to the left or right.

Other than this, I really love the phone, but this little quirk is driving me nuts.

It only adds screens as you need them. Drag a widget or shortcut to the right to create a second screen. Once you have that one you can make a third by doing the same. However once you remove everything on a screen you'll lose it.

I think I'm starting to figure that out. It looks like the Google launcher is a tad different than what was on my old X, since I actually have a couple of blank screens on either side with that phone which I never use. I only want one to the right and one to the left. I guess if I can't make it work the way I want, I can always go to a different launcher, which is the beauty of Android!

What's funny is most people want to delete screens, and here I want to add them! I'm just a creature of habit, I guess. But the screen is beautiful. As soon as I get it all set up, then I can really start playing with it.

Can you pinch on the main screen and see a + to add a screen? I thought I saw that while playing around at verizon today.

Yeah, I had to adjust to this when I got my Nexus 5 (shipped with Google Now launcher). After a couple days I was actually liking it more than the regular launcher. All my most important shortcuts and widget on my main screen, swipe to the right for my less-used app shortcuts, or swipe to the left for my Google Now screen with personalized cards and news updates. Simple, and I'm totally dependent on having my homescreens like that now. :)

Anyway, yes, the only way to add a screen is to drag and drop a shortcut or widget over to the next screen.

@kjjb0204 You can long press in the empty space on your homescreen to get a zoomed-out view, but it just gives you three buttons: wallpapers, widgets, and settings (which is actually a link to Google Now settings, not system settings). No "Plus Homescreen"-type button as on other launchers, as I said you must do that in the aformentioned way. :)

Congrats in your new X! Remember, there are many third-party launchers in the play store if you decide you just can't stand the Google Now launcher.

Any idea how to set/change the default home screen? I've added 5 screens but the home button is mapped to the 1st/far most left screen. I'd like it to be the middle (3rd) screen and I just can't find a setting for this.

On the Google now launcher that is just how it is set up. It will always be that left screen. You'd have to download a different launcher to get it to the middle. You do get used to it though. I hated that on my nexus 5 when I first got it but now I prefer it.

Thanks! So this is definitely different than on the first gen Moto X, correct? I believe I could designate any home screen to be the default screen.

That is correct. The new Moto x is using the Google now launcher instead.
