Moto X 2014 The Moto G has a better camera?

Re: The Moto G has a better camera?

That sucks. I don't like iOS and I hate Tochwiz and other android skins. Motorola really needs to improve the camera. Maybe the Google camera app is better?

Here is my own comparison: http://forums.androidcentral.com/mo...-g-2014-vs-moto-x-2014-camera-comparison.html

No the Moto G camera is not better than the X, not by a long shot. Right now it's all down to the software side, the Moto X photos are grainier in the the dark, Motorola can fix it with software updates to improve post processing and change the way the camera choose it's ISO level when taking shot. Until they do that, low light shots will be less grainy for the Moto G, but overall details are much sharper on the X.

You are lying to yourself it you're going to buy the G and think it's better than the X.

Re: The Moto G has a better camera?

The Moto X 2014 camera is horrible. Well at least compared to my LG G2. I don't know if the LG is that good, the X is that bad or a little of both. If you leave the MotoX on automatic flash it will flash almost every time. I tried taking pictures side by side and the G2 was so much better every time. I'm sure the MotoX can take better pictures but I don't want to have to adjust the settings constantly.

'Horrible' is a strong word over the top guy. LOL

Re: The Moto G has a better camera?

Those look pretty good to me. You realize the camera module is a Sony IMX135 from the G2/S4/Note right?

Re: The Moto G has a better camera?

Is the Moto X camera worse, equal to, or better than the Nexus 5 camera?

So why is it worse in low light then the g2 s4 and note?

If software is the issue, then why can't an app make it better? Software update for the moto x 2013 didn't make it much better.

Camera module might be the same, but other internal hardware makes it not perform as well in those conditions.

About the same although I like the moto interface better. I think a key is to never zoom. Once you zoom the picture gets really bad. Keep the picture at normal zoom and crop in post processing. The camera is fine in normal lighting conditions.

You hit a few points here. I honestly don't know why Motorola -- or any other Android OEM for that matter -- can't make a smartphone camera on par or better than the iPhone's camera. Hardware? Software? A combination of both? Why can't anyone else but Apple figure this out?

As a big Android (and Motorola) fan, this is very frustrating.

Re: The Moto G has a better camera?

That looks like a macro shot done in prime conditions. We know the Moto X does well in such conditions, but it's the auto focusing and the not-as-ideal situations I'm more worried about. And in dark conditions? The Moto X, from what I've seen, fails big there.
There's more on the Google plus community that look great. People are not using the tap to focus setting and complaining about focus.

Exactly! And since tap to focus also controls exposure, you can influence the color in the Photos too.

The one reviewer kept complaining about colors of both oversaturated and dull shots that they took.

I always use tap-to-focus and, quite honestly, the new X still struggles with accurate focus. Based on the experience of the Gen 1 X and the incredible improvements done on the software side with that, I'm confident that Moto will make the necessary improvements to the new X. My only question is why they keep releasing phones with sub par camera software/processing when certain other OEMs don't have that issue.

That being said, I do believe the flash has been vastly improved compared to last year's model. The color balance, coverage and even distance are greatly improved.

I completely agree. I don't understand why Motorola consistently falls short when it comes to their cameras. I am definitely getting better pictures with the 2014 Moto X compared to last year's, but it's still kind of hit and miss.
