Moto X 2014 User Experience Question

I loved using the moto x 2013. I would like to try the 2014 but I have a few questions. I have been an iPhone user for years and the one thing that I notice switching back and forth are the small and I mean small stutters. Like when opening the messaging app or hangouts it seems to load the app and then a little later the keyboard pops up. I have also seen it in reverse like the keyboard goes away last. I have eliminated the transitions to speed it up but there is still a subtle difference in the speed of moving around and the iPhone seems to move faster to me.

All of this is subtle but it starts to wear on me as I use the device over time. Do you notice any of this with he 2014 x?

In Hangouts the delay is because its has to refresh every time you open the app now due to Google Voice loading. I hate it but will deal with it as I use hangouts a lot. My M7 does the same silly thing. Even the Moto G does it.

Yes, hangouts seems to be the worst offender. But the standard messaging app loads pictures as slideshows which drives me crazy. Messaging is such a large part of most peoples user experience, it would seem it should be one of the smoothest.

Were you by any chance using swiftkey keyboard?

I experience sluggish keyboard load/vanish times, sometimes I think its my old phone, other times I really think swiftkey is the reason.

IOS does a very good job of "filling in" the refresh stutters and other areas of potential "lag" with animation and eye candy. Apple is a master of making the user enjoy the experience of using their device. So much so that using apple products actually annoys me sometimes. I feel like apple products many times(after the "oooh ahhh" factor has worn off) feel almost sluggish because of it. I do not care about the nice pretty animations. I want the my content to reach my eyes as quickly as possible. You can keep your over-the-top flip and expansion animations.

That being said, hammering out the lag and stutters has been a consistent area of improvement for Android. It nipping at IOS's heels already, and will only get better with Android L. The Moto X by almost all accounts is one of the, if not the smoothest android phone yet.

Swiftkey + Hangouts = laaaaaaaaaag. But I still use that combo. It's improved quite a bit with the latest updates to both apps, I no longer see the keyboard remain for a second after returning to the home screen.
