Usually when a phone is released with lots of hyped up features like the Moto X there have been apps around that do similar things for quite some time. Are there any apps that can be used with other phones, specifically the Galaxy s4 that would provide functionality like always on, display notifications, twist for camera or any of the optimizations the moto x has built in?
The only features from the Moto X that can currently be ported to other devices is the camera app and the twist gesture to activate it. Although you may need to have another phone on to actually use the gesture unlike the Moto X.
The reason why I feel the X is revolutionary is because the two extremely-low powered DSPs they have called the Language Computing Processor and Contextual Processors enable the phone to access all of its sensors and perform specific functions using extremely little energy and leaving the phone in deep sleep.
The Active Display would normally need the CPU and GPU constantly running to be keeping track of the position of the phone, and rendering the images on the screen with the current notifications. These are all handled by the Contextual Processor on the X which makes it to where it uses virtually no battery power.
The Touchless Commands likewise require the use of the Language Processor and the Contextual Processor to continually take in information from the microphones and process them into recognizeable patterns to find the phrase "OK, Google Now".
The Moto X is the first Android phone to actually include software features that cannot be ported to other phones due to the engineering advances within the processors included to keep the battery consumption to a manageable level. As the Motorola engineers state, without their two DSPs the Motorola X would have needed three batteries to allow their features to last for the same time the Moto X does.
