Moto X on Republic Wireless

I've been on VZW forever, currently with Moto X 2013. Thinking of possible switch to Moto X 2014 on Republic Wireless. Anybody have any experiences or comments to share? Thanks in advance!

I've had Republic Wireless for several years. I had the Moto X 2013 and, now, the X 2014 (both on Republic).

I can say that it's really a mixed bag with them and comes down to whether Sprint service is passable where you live, work and play and if you need cellular data...

With all the hot deals on prepaid service right now, there's really no reason to get locked down with dodgy Republic/Sprint service on a 100% forever locked phone just to pay $60 (Republic charges hella tax and fees unlike every other prepaid service! Don't let their "$5, 10, $25, $40" prices fool you. You're going to get shafted with taxes and fees on top of that!)

For example, you could do StraightTalk or H2O Wireless or AirVoice or Cricket, etc. and not get f*cked for taxes and fees, pick whatever phone you want and never be locked to any carrier like you would with Republic.

So honestly, unless you only want the $10 + tax/fees plan, Republic on sh*tty Sprint network simply isn't worth most people's time or money. Go to another prepaid carrier.

Note: I'm only with Republic because of their $10 plan. If I ever find that I seriously need cellular data on a regular basis, that's the moment I bail on Republic, sell this locked Moto X 2014 and go with another prepaid carrier.

I've been with Republic for several years, and I'm very happy. I pay $49.76 total /month for two lines with unlimited cell and data. Where I live, Sprint has good covg, so I have no complaints about the covg. I have more problems with my tmobile work cell covg. I love my carrier as much as I love my custom moto x...a lot. Its the best deal no one knows about.

I somehow managed to miss all of these responses until just now. Too late now, I already ordered my 2nd Gen Moto X yesterday. It's built and should ship shortly so hope to have it later this week. I'm in Fort Worth, TX area and my wife has Sprint service and hasn't had any data reception issues. I'll give it the 14-day free trial and I want to try both 3G and 4G plans. Motox2fan: Have you compared the speed difference between the 2 plans? $4.76 tax on $45 sounds reasonable to me.

The 3G speed has been sufficiently fast for my needs, so I haven't tried the 4G. You might want to inquire on the Republic forums... Plenty of active, helpful users there.

I'd be interested in the answer. I've had Republic Wireless for over 2 years now and I love it. I have original Moto X and the $10/month plan since I use so little cell/data. That's the whole point of Republic. You're not supposed to get the low cost - WIFI - carrier and then take advantage by principally using the cell offering. BTW, my monthly cost (besides the initial outlay for the phone) is $12.53.

Having said that, I have noticed that the last two updates to the software - presumably in preparation for Lollipop - have made a lot of people unhappy.

Three months in and I'm very happy with my move to RW. I have changed my behavior somewhat as I look for open WiFi hotspots whenever I'm away from home. I did ask a RW community member if he saw a big difference between 4g and 3g. He said there is significant speed difference but also suggested looking at network coverage map to make sure you have good 4g coverage before making the switch. I do have good 4g coverage where I live but so far 3g seems to work just fine for my needs, so figure I may as well save the $15 per month difference.
