That's an amazing amount of dough for a cellphone. I know it's possible you didn't have an upgrade, but how do you, or anybody else here justify $450-500 if available on a contract? What is people's aversion to a contract? It seems like even with the ETF added to the subsidized price doesn't equal what many pay for this device without a contract
Interesting. I'd have thought the X had better call quality since Motorola has always been good with thatNexus 5 Pros
Better Call Quality (from earpiece)- Calls have been surprisingly strong and clear!
Yeah, that's what I meant by call qualityYes, I was not comparing signal or radios. Just the ear speaker loudness and clarity.

I'm currently on Verizon and have a grandfathered unlimited data plan plus a promotion that they ran for unlimited data + messaging for a great price. In order for me to keep both I have to buy my phone off contact and pay full price (unaware of any other ways around this). It sucks but it's a necessary evil IMO!
Plus I have the Dev Edition

Nature of the biz I think. Some people want to change devices much more often or on their own schedule, rather than on a carrier's plan. Some have grandfathered plans that they want to keep and they're unaware of loopholes.
6-9 months after release many devices can be resold for a decent price. After that its much worse the longer that you wait. A 2 year old phone is worth very little.
To a point though.... If Verizon, AT&T and Sprint don't lower your fees when you are not on contract... You may as well use the loopholes and take their money for the subsidy.

Cool...but I can't imagine if you did the math that paying 3 times more for a device would outweigh losing your grandfathered plan. Who needs unlimited data anyway? Almost all plans have unlimited messaging now with upwards of 6GB of data. But no big deal..to each his own. I'm just trying to understand the logic of paying such a large amount for a phone
