Moto X Play dim screen when unlocking phone

Hi, need help...whenever I unlock the phone. The screen display starts off as dim for couple of seconds and then brightens up. This didn't happened initially when the phone was new. Not sure if the phone is faulty or I have changed the settings some how?
Any advice would be great.

Welcome to the forums. Do you have any lock screen app installed in your phone? Or any third party app to control the brightness? Do you have Moto Display activated?
