moto x powers down unexpectedly

My moto x worked great for a month. Then started shutting off at random times. I cleared cache per Motorola directions. This helped for about a week, now I'm having the same issues. Any suggestions as to what to do. I did remove a few apps I had added right before problem started.

No case. I can't think of any changes except kitkat update.

Can't see a case shutting the phone down, might be defective hardware. I would exchange it or have it warranty

I've had this happen a few times starting a couple days ago. I've had the phone about 2 weeks and it's had KitKat on it from the first day. Dunno what the cause is, but does anyone know if a factory reset will eliminate the customized boot-up text?

I think it will. I also think you can put it back without root. I remember seeing reference to how somewhere on XDA but I don't know details. If you reset, be sure to backup your wallpaper if you want to keep it.
