Moto X Pure Edition- how do I set it up (SIM card)?

I'm about thiiiiis close to giving up on waiting for the Nexus 6 and just getting the Moto X (I'm worried that the Nexus won't have a lot of the great Motorola features), and I'm strongly considering the pure edition- I'm an AT&T guy but I think it might be worth it to avoid the "carrier bloat".

This is probably a stupid question, but I've never had an Android phone before, so: if I buy the phone from Motorola, and it arrives at my door, how do I set it up? Does it walk me through the setup (like with iPhones) where they have me sign in using my AT&T username and password and the rest just goes automatically, or do I have to do a SIM card exchange (my current phone is an iPhone 5- not sure if the SIMs are compatible)? Should I take it to an AT&T store to make sure that may account transfers to the new device correctly?

Is there anything else I need to know? Thanks in advance...

I assume you have an ATT SIM card, it will work with any unlocked GSM phone so it will work with the MotoX Pure Edition. You just pop in the SIM and use it. The phone will go through a simple walkthrough like correcting to WiFi and logging on your Google account. When you open the Motorola apps it'll walk you through how to use them as well... mostly.

The Moto X used a nano SIM slot, so you just have to make sure that's the size of your sim card. If not, just bring the Moto X and your sim card to a ATT store and ask them to exchange the sim card for the correct size.

Also if you don't get text/data after you insert the sim, you need to manually input the correct ATT APN. I believe you won't have to do this since the phone should recognize the ATT SIM and automatically apply the appropriate APN settings. Or the people at ATT store should be able to set it up for you (if they can't they failed at their job), but you can search on how to "enter ATT APN" on Google as well. Most likely you won't have to do this though.

I ran into problems with data. Be sure that ATT recognizes your phone as an LTE device. I had to go through the chat online with ATT in order to do this. Good luck!

I'm assuming the sim in your iPhone is different than the Moto X, so you will likely need to use the sim that ships with your X. With AT&T you can either call them, go into the store, or do the online chat. I got the AT&T branded phone (really stupid since I had to disable all the AT&T bloat), and I was able to swap sims from my OG Moto X to the new one, but I still did the online chat to give them the IMEI number of my new phone (not sure if that's even necessary). If I chose to use the sim that shipped in the phone, they needed the number on the sim itself. I figured if I was opening the drawer anyway to get the number, I might as well swap. Anyway, you may be able to log in to that activation page AT&T has and everything will work, but I got an error when I tried that. Their online chat is pretty decent, or at least I've always had good luck with them. Just be prepared for them to not realize the sim drawer is on the top of this phone. The chat lady kept telling me it was on the side, so they're still working with info on the OG Moto X.

Both phones use a nano SIM. So it should be as simple as inserting the AT&T SIM into the Moto X.

As someguy01234 said, there is a small chance that you will need to change some off the APN settings, but you shouldn't have to. It should be something you can fix with a call to AT&T and nothing more. Of course bringing it to the store could be a little easier.

Motorola has an app that will help you move stuff you want over to the Moto X. It's called Motorola Migrate, and it comes on the phone. I used it for an android-to-android transfer and it was amazingly simple, but I imagine it won't be that way for iphone-to-android.

I went from an iPhone 5s to the 2013 Moto X on ATT. All I had to do was install the SIM card and log into Google. Everything worked just fine.
