Hey Guys,

I picked up a Moto X about a month ago, and on this past Thursday I noticed that there was this green discoloration in the upper left corner, it essentially looked like algae.

It continued to degrade quickly and this morning it appeared as in the attached picture. Any idea what causes something like this? I can say with absolute certainty it was not exposed to water or water vapor etc, same goes for drops.. phone has gone through no drops.

I tried using an app to show different colours, and the discolouration pattern was the same regardless what colour was shown, however when the screen was turned off and I inspected it with a very bright light and magnifying glass I could not see any inconsistencies, so it is certainly not any contamination between the glass and display panel.

I've returned it to the rogers store and waiting for a replacement, the rogers store agree's that there are no signs of water or physical trauma.

do a factory reset if that didnt fix call motorola for a replacement. you still have 1 yr warrenty

Yeah I am aware I have a warranty, I have sent it back via the carrier (rogers), the in-store staff agree there are no signs of damage, but I worry the repair center may just default to saying it is my fault.... which is why I was curious to know more about what would cause this type of failure as I have had a hard time finding examples of it.

Can't speak for Rogers but when I worked at Verizon once the store processed the claim and took it in it was on them. We would get monthly metrics with how many phones we took in that weren't broken or were caused by physical damage but never went after the customer at that point.

I'm not expert, but it looks like maybe something went wrong with the adhesive on the back of the screen maybe?
