2300 mah battery? Eh, that's very poor for a phone this size. At least on the surface it appears this way.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

The fact that they come out with the Power Pack Micro and the Turbo charging feature indicates to me the X will not have qi charging which will be very disappointing. I rather get the Nexus 6 with Android L and qi charging in that case, but I'm sure I can sell my OnePlus to fund for the X.

And the Moto G look like out went get NFC also which is another disappointment.

I for one will not purchase the leather option if it's real leather.

I remember Motorola had some decent price reductions with the original Moto X during its run. Maybe they'll hold a few sales during the year for the new model to bring down the price.

I was really looking forward to this, but at $500 for 16gb, not anymore. Oh well. Sticking with OPO for now, but hoping for a smaller, flagship that's affordable off contract.

I might hang on to my M7 a little bit longer. This phone caught my eye but the battery life might kill my interest...Its not totally dead yet but its getting that way. Damn them! ><!

I am surprised it is not 550 or 599. Anyone that thought it would be cheaper than this was kidding themselves.

I am doing the same, but my wife is really after my OPO so I may revert to my old school Moto X and just try to wait for a good sale on the 32GB version.

Pretty much. Phones like the Oneplusone and Nexus have skewed our thinking of the standard pricing for phones. Motorola pricing is much more in line with mainstream thinking.

And still cheaper than what the other major manufacturers are setting their flagships at for an unlocked version. $500 is pretty much what I expected given the rumored specs.

They are actually even better considering every other flagship debuted with an off contract price of $550 or more. That includes devices such as the Lumia Icon, HTC M8 with Windows (this is actually $610 direct from Microsoft), and the Lumia 930.

I dont see what all the fuss is about. iphone 6 locked + iso, samsung s5 TW + carrier bloat..plus theyll cost more. I dont mind paying what i did for my moto x b/c its a great phone. Probably the best phone ive owned to date really. The G is the new moto x 1st gen.

$499 for a unlocked, vanilla android with a 5.2 HD screen is appealing to me b/c of my experience with my moto x 1st gen . Even if the price for the 32g was $100 more you're still getting twice the storage

LG G3 sells for $600, compared to $550 for the new X 32GB version and the G3 has more than $50 worth of better hardware on board . The X should be $100 cheaper than it is.

Hardware does not dictate price, value does. If you think a top of line smartphone should be under $500, then you don't know anything about economics.

I don't think the Moto X is terribly overpriced but I agree with your analysis. I would take a G3 over a Moto X any day of the week for the camera and specs unless the price of the Moto X was at least $100 less than the G3. Should be $449/$499 IMO.

Personally, I think that smartphones are overpriced across the board. Device manufacturers primary distribution channels (at least in the in the United States) are via wireless carriers and their channel partners who operate within a natural oligopoly created by the scale required to build out a network. As a result of imperfect competition, carriers have historically utilized cartel pricing to take economic profits. I'm a big believer in public choice theory and though the anti-trust legislation in the United States has been used in the past to regulate monopolies, overall it has done a pretty poor job of addressing this issue. And because this is consumer facing issue and there's so much informational assymetry, the general public is rationally disinterested from the regulatory process. I see the FCC as basically a captive regulator. But hey, you're right, none of my degrees are in economics. I just took a lot of electives.

I think the 60 dollar trade in value for the OG is a joke
Gimme 200 and you have a deal
