Moto X vs Note 3 vs. Nexus 5 - cant decide

Did you root before the Kit Kat update? Because after the Kit Kat update from what I was reading on XDA, you had to roll back to the camera update and then root unless I misunderstood.

Yes, rooted before KitKat. To elaborate on the battery question...my Nexus can get me through the day on a mediocre cell signal, its just by the end of the day, I do have to be careful, where the X, I can do almost whatever I please.

It's a bit trickier after you upgrade to Kit Kat because you have to roll back to 4.2.2 first. From what I understand, what you end up with is a phone running 4.4 with a 4.2.2 kernel. Not sure if it matters, but I wouldn't call it a simple process to root if you installed the 4.4 OTA update.

Not sure on that one at all. When I tried to update by returning to stock I still couldn't do it.

I am very the Nexus 5 and would love to try out a Moto X. From what I hear it's a great device and something I'd probably enjoy over the Nexus 5 simply because of the battery and active features.

I personally think that the Moto X is better than the Nexus 5 because of battery and active notifications.

It's a small sample size but I believe "faster updates" is a tough argument to make AGAINST the Moto X. The Moto X on Verizon (of all carriers) had Kit Kat within 3-4 weeks of the code release

Another factor to keep in mind, Motorola knows mobile radios. They have generally been one of the top performers in signal pull. They practically invented mobile communications.

I can't compare to the Nexus 5 (I'm on Verizon) but if I had to pick a phone, I'd still take the Moto X. the active notifications, always-listening, responsiveness are just amazing. Many people get caught up on "specs", but when it comes down to it, this phone runs smooth as can be. The way the 8 cores are utilized offloads tasks from the main CPU to other cores and makes a "mid-range" main CPU feel like a top of the line unit.

If you don't mind holding a small tablet to your face to make a call, I guess the Note 3 would be OK but (IMO) it's too big to be a phone, and there's even one bigger than that.
