Moto Z Screen Cracked :(

Hello,
First time posting here. So I have a small hairline crack on my moto z. I looked on ebay and the screen with the digitizer is like 200 dollars, but there is also just the glass replacement for like 10 dollars. I think all I need is a glass replacement, but not sure. Has anyone repaired a cracked screen on a moto z before? And if so, what was the process like?

Thanks, I just hate living with an imperfect phone screen even if it is pretty small.

Try looking up a few YouTube videos on doing the replacement. Doing the screen with digitizer is difficult enough on most phones, but trying to replace just the glass is almost impossible. It is normally glued to the actual screen. Separating them looks very difficult. I was going to try replacing the glass on my daughter's S6E until I watched a few videos. I decided to take it to a repair shop that specializes in screen repair. It will cost about $220 for them to do it.

Motorola will replace the screen for $125 US per their chat support.

Chintakindi: The cost to replace the screen under Repair and Return program is - (Sub-Total: $125.00)
Robert: OK, thank you very much. Does the price change after the warranty expires?
Chintakindi: No Robert, the price will be same.

I know that stinks, but all things considered I've seen companies charge more. I would go with a tempered glass screen protector after you get it replaced. Sometimes that can take the brunt of the damage and can be easier and cheaper to replace.

Yeah $125 for a screen replacement done properly by the manufacturer is extremely reasonable. +1 for a tempered glass protector when you get it back.

Welcome to Android Central!

First: I am sorry that your screen cracked! That is awful!

Are you under any kind of warranty? Also, how old is this device?

A word of caution: if you've never repaired a phone screen before, I would recommend not doing so; or even showing it to a cellular repair shop and seeing if they can fix it for a decent price. If you have any kind of warranty, insurance, or coverage on your phone (ie, you're under a contract, for instance), taking the phone apart yourself will void all of that.

Good luck finding a solution! I definitely get what you mean: a cracked screen, no matter how minimal, is frustrating! Plus, even smaller cracks can expand in time and that can damage the internal composition of your phone; so it's best to get your device looked at sooner rather than later - good for you for jumping on this now!

I cracked my tempered glass, but I thought Motorola had some type of shatterproof guarantee. I could be wrong though

Moto Z Force has the Shattershield, the Z does not.

Some manufacturers have been touting their glass screens as shatter resistant, and offering a warranty on shatters. I'm not aware of Motorola offering this on the non-shattershield devices, but it'd be worth talking to a Moto rep about.

Only the Z Force and the DT2 have the Shattershield screen in the Moto phones. Samsung Active line has something similar

Curious what height you guys dropped from and onto what surface? These are still Gorilla glass 3 (or 4?) and supposed to be pretty crack resilient as well.

Thought I had cracked my Z after a drop. Was investigating all the same things. Then realized only the Zagg glass protector was cracked. Used Zagg replacement policy and am back in business. Never again will I be without Zagg.

What about the Z play?
Dropped mine yesterday and the tempered glass shattered. Now I think I can see a tiny tiny crack on the glass (screen looks and works perfectly)

As benjamminh said, the only 2 phones with Shattershield are the Droid Turbo 2 and the Moto Z Force. The Moto Z and Moto Z Play both have Gorilla Glass.
