Motorola Droid Razr Maxx Google keyboard has stopped while device is locked

My Motorola Droid Razr Maxx gave me a message that the Google Keyboard has stopped working. The only issue resetting the device is that the screen is locked. The keyboard will not pop up to unlock the phone. Is there a way to bypass the unlock code and reset the cache/update device? I know that there are ways to do this while the device is unlocked. But what if it is locked? Thank you.
