Motorola's Nexus - possible details on new mid-range Nexus phone

Technically not on one carrier, other carriers outside of the US get RAZRs too.

Right. But the point remains: Motorola's sales are dwarfed by Samsung's because their products don't reach nearly as many people.

I'd like to know where in this rumor territory it was hinted to be a Nexus. This sounds a lot more like Motorola is releasing it as the low cost phone alongside others that will make up their X line. My guess is it will be one of the X line.

The phone in question says NEXUS on the back of it towards the bottom.

Updated the OP. Fresh intel suggests this won't be at I/O, if it's even still a Nexus. (There's been some talk that whatever this was might eventually come to market with Moto badging instead.) Again, full rumor mode here, so take with a pinch of salt.

Just a pinch?

I doubt that this thing will be branded as a Nexus. If anything, it could be released as a model in the Motorola X lineup. For those people who have been following this, you will notice that this phone looks to be the same one that has been submitted to the FCC for approval.

Within 36 hours of the keynote's conclusion... I'm betting we hear about X but don't see a release and that the only actual Nexus device is the N7 refresh.

Heard a couple of months back was that there was some internal wrangling over whether this needed to be a Nexus, and whether it was in Google's best interest for it to be branded like that and released unlocked through the Play Store alongside the N4. I'm convinced that at some point the Nexus option was on the table, but I think you're probably right, and it'll be Moto-branded instead.

Well, at any rate, we will wait a day and see if anything pops up about it at Google I/O. It will be interesting to see where this places in the Motorola X lineup.
