Don't know if this has been covered before, but I just discovered we can mount samba/cifs network shares on our phones using a program called CifsManager! I had been placing files on an FTP accessible computer and then using AndFTP to transfer them to my phone. It worked, but it was cumbersome to say the least - put files on my server, run AndFTP, log into the server, download the file and, finally, run Root Explorer or Files to access them on the phone.

Now, I just mount the share using CifsManager and not only is everything on my server easily accessible, but I can copy files from my phone back to the server as well. It's awesome! Here's some screenshots. I can even play music and movies stored on the server on the phone over WiFi.

I tried this with Astro (or one of the other replacement file managers, i forget) to mount and use SMB shares and it worked just enough to show me the file names but they were unusable; I couldn't copy to local or open them remotely. I will have to give cifsManager a try, thanks for the tip!
