Movie aspect ratio wrong

I just updated Oculus Video on my S7 Edge and finally it can play movies from the SD card.

As a test I copied the first part of Lord of the Rings onto the device but both Oculus Video and Samsung VR Gallery play it in full screen, i.e. 16:9 ratio.

The file was created using Handbrake from a DVD rip and plays correctly in MX Player and on other devices. The video resolution is 1015 x 424 which gives a correct ratio of about 2.4:1.

Any idea about how I can get it to play correctly, presumably with black bars at the top and bottom?

As far as I'm aware, Oculus Video doesn't support anything but 16:9 and 4:3. You can leave feedback on the Oculus website to have features added though.

OK thanks. It never occurred to me it wouldn't be supported as there are so many films using a wider aspect ratio.

I'll check out the Oculus forum and suggest it if necessary.

Just a brief follow-up in case anyone else is interested.

I tried experimenting with the Handbrake video settings and a DVD rip of Star Wars (VI). I found that setting the Anamorphic value to Loose or Strict causes the video to fill the screen. But seeing it to None results in it displaying at the correct aspect ratio.

I'm not sure what difference this actually makes to the file itself but at least it works. This is the same on both Oculus Video and Samsung VR Gallery.
