Moving from Apple to Android

Maybe you should chance it on the P10 - who knows, you may not even notice the screen smudges! Plus, a cloth wipe here and there is totally cool. I gotta wipe my screen every once in a while!

Yup, the Pixel should drop in price around that time. It's a really good phone and provides a great stock Android experience. Maybe go to the store and play with one to see how it feels in the hand!

My original reply was longer but I keep getting blocked from sending my a spam filter!

Not many reviews of this phone actually notice the lack of coating, so perhaps its only people who watch movies, play games etc on their phone? I was really keen, it can't be that big of deal. I've played with a Pixel before, its nice but its not going to drop down to £400, the Huawei seems like a bargain, perhaps I could just leave the screen protector on. I don't think it would peel off itself with day to day use would it?

If it's the plastic cover that comes on the screen when you buy it, it should stay on for a while! And you have a point: maybe only people who watch lots of videos or play lots of games on their phones would notice this. Who knows, maybe you won't notice it!

Cheers for the advice. I just need to make a decision and stick to it. I either go for it with this deal at £400 and don't look back, or I wait and don't rush into it. I'll probably do the later option as I'm away abroad for a week as of Thursday. The deal will probably be gone by then but at least I won't spend my entire holiday wondering if I'm going home to a new phone I do or don't want lol! There will be other phones and deals

Why on earth do I keep getting "exceeded spam threshold" when I try to send a longer message? Doing my nut in!

You're right: don't be a slave to a deal! Maybe sitting back and taking a breather from this will help. If you still find yourself wanting the phone after you've waited a while, then you know it's for you!

Just spoke to a girl in the store. She says you can exchange the phone for something else within 28 days if I don't like it, so might temp getting it as its on a great deal 😬 Worst comes to worst I could change it for a Pixel maybe

That's awesome! Good for you - go for it! Please let us know how you like it!!

I have used the P10 and I can say that the aftermarket screen protectors (tempered glass ones) work just fine. Also the factory one is a pretty decent screen protector as well. Good luck.

Ah okay, so I could buy the P10 & get a tempered glass one? Would it change the sensitivity of the screen? I'm still undecided about the whole thing. A reduced price Pixel 1 might be worth getting if the Pixel 2 is away to come out.

No, I use tempered glass screen protectors all the time, no issues so far.

Pixel is an awesome device. I am currently using that.

Morning all,

So the £400 deal has now disappeared & I've not bought it so no immediate decision to be made.

I'm actually more relieved at not having to make the decision, rather than gutted its gone, which could be a tell tale sign.

I've been chatting to a mate who went iPhone to Android and he actually said that while Android does have lots of neat features, it is a huge change & has lots of complexity. Its more for those who want to do heaps of different things with their phone, treating it as a geeks gadget. If I just want a good system, customer service, generic apps and such stick with apple. Most of the features hit iOS eventually.

Now thinking I might stick to apple.... ??????

Good morning!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with deciding to stick with Apple for the time being! Apple is a great platform. Maybe you'll switch over when you see that one device that persuaded you to make the jump!

As far as switching over, for sure, there is a learning curve; but it's not so bad! In a few days' time (and maybe even a week or so, depending on how much time you have to adjust to more in-depth features of that particular phone), you'll have the basics down! When I switched from BlackBerry to Android, it took me a little over a week or more to get fully used to it.

Anyway, keep posting around here and keep us updated on what you decide!

I have devices running Android, WM and iOS. I rarely have issues switching between the three. To each their own.
Good luck.

Hi Morty and Co, Back again.... *groans from you all* haha

After having a chilled out week on Holiday abroad I've had a good think and decided that actually, I need to take the leap and just choose an Android phone. The thought of a new iphone no longer excites me in the slightest. I'd essentially be paying £650+ for a phone with a new shell and better camera. I'd get used to it within minutes and there's no novelty.

The thought of getting an android does excite me, It gives me a buzz as there's so many new features and such like - the split screen alone!

I'm thinking I might just need to concede that phones are now bigger and better and i'll get used to the size. The OnePlus 5 actually feels better than expected in my hand but i wouldn't want anything much bigger still. The P10 Plus i'm unsure about. Part of me was a little gutted I didn't just get the P10 at £400 as it was such a good price.

I don't want to spend a huge amount on a Samsung S8 for example. £600 is probs my budget but anything up to £500 sounds better.

I'm also looking at the RAM and see the Pixel hasn't got as much as the P10/OnePlus, How important is that?

The new pixel is due to be announced on Wednesday and Carphone warehouse actually has the Pixel XL for sale at £449.99 but only 32GB so iffy on that.

Lastly, I'm not convinced on a back fingerprint sensor tbh, though I like the idea that is easy to access and can be used to drag down the notification centre but with a wallet case or even normal, I'm not sure how easy it would be to actually use with a case at all...

Fast Charge mode would be great and also I like the rave reviews on google assistant too. If it was a bigger phone then a one handed mode could be incredibly handy! I'm also one for Wifi Calling as my phone gets poor signal in my flat. Is that an iPhone thing or available with all Androids?

So general thoughts? (I'd imagine with my indecisiveness, it could be a hand gesture... haha)

Pixel runs like a champ because pure Android. RAM is not an issue. My Pixel runs just as smooth on Oreo as it did on Nougat. It's been about 1 year old but still runs like the day I first got it.

Once you get used to the FPS on the rear you will actually think why don't all manufacturers put the FPS where the Pixel has it. It is more convenient and the screen is on by the time you pick the phone up and bring it up to eye level to check notifications etc.

The camera is still great. I know Dxomark now rates the iPhone 8/8+ as slightly higher but in low light the Pixel still crushes the new iPhone 8.

Battery life has been greatly improved on Oreo at east for me. And Rapid charge works really well. I don't plug the phone in every night. I just charge it whenever I get a chance. I don't have to worry about making sure it is 100% in the morning and then plug it in at night.

So if you can find a deal on a Pixel/Pixel XL, I would say go for it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! Have you got the normal Pixel or the XL? Must admit, stock android and first updates, plus Google Support, is very appealing tbh!

The rear finger print sensor is off putting because I'm instantly putting a case on and I'm not sure how easy it'll be to use if I put a case on with only a hole for the sensor, will I still be able to 'Slide down' on it to bring down the notification centre? That'd be useful certainly on the Pixel XL.

Can you change the aperature, ISO etc on the camera?

I have the regular Pixel. I had the XL briefly but it was too big for me. I have a Caseology case on it and no issues with the FPS at all.

Google Camera app has no manual controls but I find I don't have to monkey with anything on this phone. It takes great pictures in pretty much any condition.

Here are a few pictures.

Using back FPS with a case won't be a problem. I used a thick Incpio dual layer case with no issues. You'll just need to get used to not using front FPS.

32GB Pixel XL is £449.99 at the moment. Is that a good deal? It won’t get any cheaper after Wednesday?
