Moving Google Nexus 5 from Sprint to AT&T

I purchased 2 Nexus 5 phones from the Google Play Store (I did this because I thought they were unlocked and I could use them on any carrier). They were on Ting, which runs on the Sprint network, but now wish to move them to StraightTalk which is AT&T. StraightTalk is telling me they are not compatible with their network. What gives?

I gave my sister an unlocked phone bought in Mexico. When she got home, all the carriers said she couldn't use it on their system. Her son was over one evening and moved the chip from his AT&T phone to his mother's phone and it worked fine. When she returned to AT&T and told them she was told, "We didn't say it wouldn't work, we said we couldn't do it."

Re: Moving Google Nexus 5 from Sprint to AT&T

Google Nexus 5's are carrier unlocked. Period. Although Ting did (maybe still does?) offer the Nexus 5, they had to charge nearly $100. more for it so suggested customers buy them directly from Google then order the sim from Ting for $10. The same Nexus 5 works on Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. They do not, AFAIK, work on Verizon because Verizon won't allow it. Do as ptkelly's nephew did, try someone's sim. If it's from an MVNO, you may have to set up an apn.
