Moving pictures without sync manager?

Is there some way that I can move pictures from my PC to the HTC One and actually make them appear in my gallery? I've tried moving them through normal Windows drag and drop to the folder \DCIM\100MEDIA and to the \Pictues folder - but they just don't appear on the phone. I've used the HTC Sync application, but since it keeps insisting that my phone is locked when it isn't, that isn't really an option.

Any help out there?

We're talking hundreds of pictues that I've taken with the phone and deleted again. Including Zoes etc. No use for me having them on Dropbox etc.
