For us rooted stock that never applied the OTA or MR1, what would the easiest method of MR2 likely be?

Would that mean another auto root or simply flash a rom?

Thanks!

There will probably be a root-enabled ruu of this update that you flash in hboot in a couple of days or pretty soon anyway. This will update your radio etc to what is included in the update, and let you maintain root/s-off.

You cannot use MR2 with the stock ROM. Although the RUU that MR2 came with is Froyo (and hasn't been released), the stock version of Froyo will not work with it. You can use any Gingerbread ROMs with MR2, or you can wait for the full RUU Froyo leak to come out and flash that.

Ok, mr n00b here.

Just snatched up plain jane and mr2. I have clockwork installed and my backup pro.

Don't care what I might lose at this time - just as long as bricking is not an option. :)

rooted stock via the autoroot from may.

Is there a step by step what to do?

Thanks!

First off, if you are rooted, then you may want to check out this guide on backing up your app data and settings before you begin:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...store-apps-data-when-installing-new-roms.html

I haven't done this yet, so I'm just repeating what I've read here...someone else feel free to jump in and correct me and/or elaborate if needed.

What you want to do is download the ROM and the MR2 Radio file to your SD card. (Rename radio "PG05IMG.zip"). The ROM can be saved anywhere, the radio file should be on the root of the card.

CHECK THE MD5s OF YOUR FILES BEFORE YOU PROCEED!!!

Then, you'll want to boot into recovery, which you can do using ROM Manager if you'd like. Since I believe it's recommended to install the ROM first, THEN the radio, you want to make sure you're booting into RECOVERY and not HBOOT Bootloader.*

Clear your data and cache, wipe dalvik from Recovery, then install the ROM from your SD card. Once that is finished, before you reboot, pull the battery from the device to shut it down. Replace the battery, then boot into HBOOT (hold "Vol -" while holding power button down), and flash the new radio.

Once that is finished, you can reboot into your new ROM. Be sure to delete or move the PG05IMG radio file from the root of SD card.

*If you read the thread for the Plain Jane ROM, you'll see that some folks have had success installing the radio in HBOOT first, then installing the ROM in recovery. Not sure which way would be easier, but do know this: As long as there is a file on the root of your SD card named "PG05IMG.zip", it WILL TRY TO INSTALL THIS EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU BOOT INTO HBOOT, EVEN IF YOU'VE ALREADY INSTALLED IT. Obviously, you don't want to install the new radio file more than one time.

i wrote this in another thread so i'll just quote it quick, but i wouldn't flash both at the same time if you are not altogether comfortable troubleshooting your device - if you flash the radio in hboot and then battery pull, go to recovery mode, and flash the rom it SHOULD work right, however, if you get a bootloop, you will not be able to just restore a backup, bc the pg05img will still be on your sd card, and you'll have to take it out and put it in a card reader or something to remove it.

The reason i wouldn't do both at the same time is if you get a bootloop, you will have to go thru hoops to remove the radio file and then you might have to start over.

Also if you do one at a time you can let them settle in a little bit on their own, and not both at once.
.

otherwise pete's directions are pretty much exactly what i would do.

Ok, here are my findings... no Adobe reader. No Google voice engine (search and navigator). This was easily remedied. The new 3g & 4g icons on top. GPS seems ok, will try tomorrow. Battery, also will try and document as well.

Besides adding a couple apps that Google did not send back down, all went well - and NO BRICK.

I accepted MR2 on my rooted Thunderbolt thinking it would not be a problem. I am now at the Android man and the triangle with exclamation point. Does anyone have any ideas of how to proceed somewhere from here? I tried volume up and the power button to no avail...

Im pretty sure you just bricked your phone did you accept the ota cause if your rooted you NEVER NEVER EVER accept an ota cause it leads to what just happened to you

If you made a back up just just wipe the usual and restore
Thanks for responding...

I am new at this..should I:

Wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

and then restore?

Or should I apply sdcard:update.zip?

Yikes! I am beginning to wish I never rooted....)-:

don't worry I've only been rooted about a month and know how you feel i did a lot of reading before root so i know a little bit and still run into issues too. personally i would wipe factory x2 then cachx2 then advanced settings then dalvik x2 just to be on the safe side then if you have a back up restore that or if you still have the ROM just apply that from your sd

were you sunning a custom ROM or still stock ????

It is the stock rom...I just did a complete backup in Clockwork Recovery....

So you are recommending I wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache partition than go to advanced and wipe dalvik and the restore what I just backed up?

Will that get me out of this OTA update loop?

I want to be VERY certain I do the right thing here at this point...sheesh )-: Thanks for your help
