Take this for what it is worth but, there has been some rumors going around that the MR2 was cancelled due to issues. This is not true according to a higher up advanced tech support agent at HTC I spoke with today. She was very knowledgeable about the current state of the Thunderbolt, and stated that they finally isolated what was causing the reboots and the only reason they have not released the software fix yet is because they have found a slue of other issues that need to be addressed before they release it.

Now the good news is she said that they are very close to releasing the software update "very soon" and its being polished up.

The bad news is there is still no official date as of yet but hopefully before the end of June. The other bad news is that when I asked about Gingerbread update, she said that they are focusing on getting GB released for the Desire before the Thunderbolt so once they are closer to releasing it for the Desire we'll get a more concrete release date for GB on the Thunderbolt. Sounds to me like it'll be another month or two before we see GB officially :(

Again, take this with a grain of salt if you will, but she sounded like she really knew what she was talking about.

They all seme to be so knowledgeable. But I hope she was right but not the gingerbread part

To cancel the MR2 update would be dumb. They should have scrapped the MR1 update, which caused problems for some. Man, I hope we don't have to wait too long for GB. 1+ months more is too much time.

Thanks for letting us know what is going on. Hopefully she is right about MR2 being released soon.

I've been running it and have not had any reboots or any problems with it at all. I hope they keep it too even though I already got it, I would recommend others get it too

Untill MR2 when ever it comes out.... I make a trip 2 sometimes 3 times a month to complain and get a different thunderbolt due to the reboots. Whenever the Bionic comes out, ill be asking for that as a replacement instead of the thunderbolt.... but by then the thunderbolt will be perfected and the bionic will have its slew of problems... U just cant win!!!

Give me a phone that meets its specifications and I can wait one hell-ov-a long time for GB.

jcase started the rumor yesterday that MR2 was canceled but today he too is saying that it is "on deck". Maybe they've tweaked it a bit to address some of the problems that have been reported with the leaked one.

Thanks, Robrecht

Hopefully they are working on the Bluetooth issue as well. I know I'm not the only one whose TB disconnects from their car from time to time for no reason. The HTC tech I spoke to said they were aware of that problem and would be offering a future software update to fix it.

Happy to hear they are tweaking it, perfecting it I hope!

Do it once, do it right! Love the phone, just want it to work as advertised!

GB will be great. if MR2 solves the Issues, I can wait a month or two for GB

I think that there has been some confusion here caused by the fact that the person who leaked the update called it MR2

MR2 is just Verizon's term for the second Maintenance Update for the phone (they use the same term on other phones too). It has absolutely NOTHING to do woth HTC.

There will definitely be an MR2 eventually, HOWEVER is is possible (even probable at this point) that the version they eventually push will not be the same as the build that leaks. It fixes the reboot issue for some but not all (for many of us it just radically reduces the frequency) and it would not surprise me int he slightest if t failed to pass Technical Acceptance for that reason. This is always a possibility when an OS build leaks. I have no doubt that the person who leaked it fully expected this to be the one that was pushed, but sometimes things happen at the last minute to change things.

The reboot problem is caused by something in the base-band (radio code) and since Gingerbread uses the same radio on the fau MR2 -- when just the radio leaked you had to be running a Gingerbread ROM for it to work -- upgrading to Gingerbread will do you no good as it will have the same issues. Let them fix the problem first THEN get Gingerbread ready.

I'm pretty certain that the new software release will be a different build than what was leaked *wink*

The reboot problem is an issue with the radio becoming confused and unstable during tower to tower hand off when there is an active data or voice connection.

I certainly hope it is since it didn't fix the problem...

Interesting considering none of my reboots have happened when the device was moving or even really doing anything at all and most happen in the middle of the night when the device is just sitting there.

I'm glad to see that it wasn't cancelled. I did the manual update and I have had no random reboots or random "rogue" excessive battery drains. The MR2 update fixed every issue I had with the MR1.

Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using Tapatalk.

Not to say the HTC rep was wrong but HTC and VZW do things differently. What HTC may approve may not get released by Verizon. HTC can send them hundreds of builds that they feel are ready for release and Verizon may release 1 or 2 or 50 based on Verizon's in-house testing. I wish it was as easy as HTC saying here you go but it doesn't work that way.

Your phone does not have to be moving to hand off between towers. Your house may be in between two different towers and you are constantly handing off between them. This is why some people have a ton of reboots, and some people have none. Also, your phone does not have to be on or you doing anything on it for it to be using the data radio. They are set to sync our facebook/email/twitter/etc every so often right??

I can manually recreate a reboot in certain areas. There is an intersection I drive through everyday, If i'm on the phone or any data is being used my phone will reboot 100% of the time when I go through this intersection (Give or take 100 yards).
